Roy Hodgson Will Take Liverpool Job

Sam RobertsJun 25, 2010

It's been strangely quiet on the vacant manager's position at Liverpool, but then Fulham boss Roy Hodgson has been out of the country.

Hodgson, who has been heavily linked with the top job at Anfield, would be a perfect fit for the Merseysiders and I fully expect him to take the job in the next week.

The former Swiss national team boss has been working as a pundit for the BBC at the Football World Cup, but he is set to return to the UK on Friday.

Talks are expected to take place between the Liverpool hierarchy and Hodgson, who has worked wonders at Craven Cottage on limited means.

The deal for Hodgson could be made public next week with Liverpool planning to officially unveil their new manager on July 1st, before the first team squad returns to training.

Hodgson, who was named Manager of the Year last season, has bundles of experience and has proved he can cut it in the top flight.

After saving Fulham from almost certain relegation when he arrived in the capital, he then guided Fulham into Europe with their highest ever league finish before taking them to the Europa League final, which they lost 2-1 to Atletico Madrid.

He is a highly-regarded tactician and, despite saying he is happy to remain at Fulham, the 62-year-old is unlikely to turn down one of the biggest jobs in English football.

However, if he does take the role it's likely there will be more Liverpool Premier League bets next season - he is a well respected figure after all.

It will probably be his last job in the game, but Hodgson is the man to get the Reds back on the right road after the departure of Rafa Benitez.
