Andre Ward Smashes Green In First Title Defense in Hometown

Just before I headed out to the Power 106 Summer Jam concert Showtime was showing the Andre Ward vs. Allan Green fight. As a huge boxing fan and not that much of a fan of anyone performing at this year’s Summer Jam I decided to watch the fight live and miss a significant portion of the concert and I was content with the decision that I made.

Andre Ward 22(13)-0 dominated the heavy handed Allan Green 29(20)-2 by being the more aggressive fighter and keeping the fight in the pocket and pinning Green against the ropes for most of the fight, landing clean power shots and even combinations.

Ward who is known to fight more like a traditional boxer and counter puncher confused Green by smothering him and taking away any advantages of height or reach that Green should have had from bell to bell. It was all action, fast paced and a crowd pleasing performance as Ward fought all 12 rounds as a true champion should. Andre did not run or hold his opponent or make excuses instead he made a big statement that night that he should be considered to be a legit champion and the man to beat in the Super Six Classic tournament.

All three judges had the same score 120 to 108 having Ward win all 12 rounds unanimously.

Ward is guaranteed a spot in the semi finals and is the man with the most momentum out of the 6 fighters in the tournament with the championship title belt and two big impressive wins over two top fighters that could have easily stopped him.

By the fighter who is known as S.O.G. (Son Of God) winning the way he did tonight shows that he is more versatile, focused and consistent than the rest of fighters and he is the only fighter to be able to claim that he is undefeated not only in the tournament but in his whole professional career.

He is the only undefeated American boxing champion right now, who is a class act both in and out of the ring, that everyone can root for and should he win the Super Six Classic tournament he will be the one to put America back on the map for the sport of boxing.
