Plan B? The New York Knicks May Need One

Jake WinieckiCorrespondent IIIJune 20, 2010

LeBron James coming to the Big Apple would certainly be the best scenario for the Knicks.  However, there is a good chance that isn't going to happen.  It appears now that Chicago is the current front runner, though that seems to change from week to week, and there is a fairly good chance he stays in Cleveland.  So, what it Plan B for the Knicks?

Certainly there are many other high profile free agents out there, but the Knicks seemingly need multiple acquisitions in order to make any kind of noise next season.  Wherever LeBron or Dwyane Wade end up, it seems that Chris Bosh will follow one of them.  I don't expect Dwyane wade to leave Miami however, and I also don't think that Dirk Nowitzki will leave Dallas.

So, where does that leave us?  Amaré Stoudemire, Joe Johnson, and RFA Rudy Gay become the best options.  With only four players on the current roster likely back next season, the Knicks would need to try to acquire two or three of those guys to build around.  With that being said, other teams, like the New Jersey Nets and the Los Angeles Clippers are still in play for those players.

The bottom line is that it is truly LeBron James or bust for this New York Knicks franchise come July.  I just hope that David Stern dosn't fine me for writing this article.
