MLB Umpire Jim Joyce Calls USA Vs. Slovenia Match (Satire)

In an effort to restore his public image following his blown call of Armando Galarraga's perfect game, umpire Jim Joyce signed up to be a referee for the World Cup. Securing the job wasn't very hard as he is frequently cited as one of Major League Baseball's best umpire. 

Joyce was quoted as saying "This is my shot at redemption. Hopefully the American people can once again trust me to call their sporting events"

But unfortunately for Joyce, he has found himself in deep water once again.

After Maurice Edu scored what would've been the winning goal, Joyce blew his whistle and called offsides, which disallowed the goal and ended that match in a 2-2 draw. 

After reviewing the play following the game, Joyce realized his mistake. 

"I just cost the U.S. a perfect game. I could have sworn they were offsides", Joyce said.

When asked whether or not he feels bad about the blown call, Joyce had this to say.

"No I did not get the correct call, I kicked the s**t out of it. This isn't just a call, this is a history call" Joyce said, "The U.S. may not advance after this."

Landon Donovan was not pleased with Joyce after the blown call. Donovan was quoted as saying, "Well at least Joyce admitted it. I don't know why he bothered showing up to South Africa if he was just going to repeat what happened in Detroit."

Coach Bob Bradley had this to say after the game: "Maybe he should go umpire in Japan if he hates American so much. This is ridiculous". 

FIFA has yet to make a decision as to what to do with Joyce, as it is clear he is unfit to referee. MLB Commissioner Bud Selig is not expecting Joyce to return to MLB until mid-July, so FIFA may just have to put up with these questionable calls.
