New NBA Free-Throw Rule Explained

Fedor and Anderson Silva: How Do You Choose?

Dorothy WillisJul 24, 2008

Ask me to choose between Georges St. Pierre and anyone and I will take GSP every time.

Ask me to choose between Fedor and Anderson Silva and I will take the "goose whisperer" (as seen in the picture with this article), a truly humble man.

Why?  Well before seeing his fight with Tim Sylvia, Fedor was just the name of a guy from Pride who a bunch of MMA fanatics (who were disenfranchised when Pride was appropriated by the UFC) decided that he was just a step below the Holy Trinity.  Fedor could do nothing but brag about his superiority to any other fighter—no exceptions.

Being completely obtuse on more than one occasion, I did not realize all the times I had seen him beating other fighters.  He is just so ordinary in his appearance that I did not know who he was.

Suddenly, when he came out to face Tim, I thought, "Oh my Lord, so that is the great Fedor!"

Seeing him rush into Tim's arms with a flurry of strikes I had expletives exploding in my head, "I have seen him before" and a lot of "damns" and "how could I be so stupid!" until I made myself sick.  I knew Fedor!

Having had Fedor at the very edges of my consciousness made me feel like such a ninny that I was forced to berate myself all night and into the next day.  It has been very hard for me to live with myself since then.

When looking back on his career and remembering seeing a fight stopped because he was standing and bleeding very quietly and in no apparent distress when the fight was called, I thought, "Wow, if they had let that fight go on and he had won, what an unbelievable record this one ordinary man would have had!"  Remarkable.  And not just the "cans" that Dana had inferred he fought.  I had been deceived by the UFC Svengali!  Curses!

So now, without a doubt in my mind, I know that if he were to fight Anderson, who I have seen put the heads of those he has vanquished in the octagon, will never add Fedor's head to his collection.
