WWE Fatal 4-Way: Five Ways Rey Mysterio Can Soar To The World Title

Josh BrewerJun 15, 2010

Despite being widely considered the second-tier show in the WWE Universe, Smackdown's main event for Sunday may be the more interesting of the two world title bouts.

Four different wrestling styles clash in the ring Sunday as World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger puts the gold on the line against Big Show, CM Punk, and Rey Mysterio.

With the world's largest athlete and the Straight Edge Society in play, the diminutive Mysterio appears to have no chance at walking away with his second world title.

As Lee Corso so often says in the college football world: Not so fast, my friend.

Take a look at these five reasons why Rey Mysterio can walk out of Uniondale with the World Heavyweight Title.

The World Heavyweight Title's Storyline is Going Nowhere

Ever since Jack Swagger won the belt after cashing in his Money in the Bank victory, he hasn't really had a serious feud over the belt. In fact, the last time the World Heavyweight Title was involved in any type of long-term feud was when Jeff Hardy and CM Punk battled over the gold last summer.

With a win Sunday, Mysterio adds some serious fuel to the feud between he and CM Punk. An already intense feud between those two men would only intensify with the addition of the World Heavyweight Title.

Mysterio's Career is in its Twilight

Earlier this year, Mysterio was quoted in interviews as saying his career could be coming to a close in the next year or two. Related Internet reports stated WWE creative was interested in giving Mysterio one more run with the world title.

Now is the chance.

If creative is happy with the progression of Jack Swagger's character, this is a perfect way to take the title off Swagger while giving Mysterio his final run at the top. A Mysterio pin of CM Punk would not only accomplish that task, but add even more heat to the Mysterio-Punk feud.

Speed May Be the Key to Victory

While CM Punk is no slouch, Jack Swagger and Big Show aren't known for their quickness around the ring. This may give Mysterio a huge advantage in a match where the fastest, and sometimes smartest, holds the edge over a potentially larger opponent.

Mysterio's speed and agility should allow him to strike quickly and interject himself into any potential pin or submission. This is incredibly important when entering battle with a giant and a reigning champion well-versed in the ground game.

Most importantly, however, is the speed and of Mysterio's signature move...

The 619

Big Show's knockout punch is a joke of a finisher. Swagger's gutwrench powerbomb takes plenty of setup, as does CM Punk's Go To Sleep.

The 619, however, can be hit at nearly any time. Deliberation isn't necessarily a must when delivering it, and it can be delivered to multiple opponents at the same time. When a finisher may need to be hit out of nowhere to claim a victory, Mysterio grabs the edge in Sunday night's World Heavyweight Title bout.

Mysterio Has Been Here Before, and Won

Though Mysterio has only held the world title once in his career, he climbed to the top of the mountain by way of a victory in a Triple Threat Match.

While there is one more opponent to account for in a Fatal Fourway, the strategy for victory is quite similar. When Mysterio won the gold at WresteMania 22, he defeated two wrestlers—Kurt Angle and Randy Orton—very similar to Swagger and CM Punk.

With Big Show's lack of agility and general plodding nature in the ring likely to be his fatal flaw, Mysterio is set up very nicely to once again overcome the odds and become a two-time World Heavyweight Champion.
