WWE Fatal 4-Way: Five Reasons the Odds Favor Sheamus

Josh BrewerJun 14, 2010

One of WWE's newest pay-per-view concepts, Fatal 4-Way is just six days away from coming live into our living rooms. Sitting atop the night's card is the four-way match for the WWE Championship.

Three former WWE champions will step into the ring with reigning champ John Cena to battle for the top prize in sports entertainment.

The dark horse seems to be the only man without multiple world title reigns, Sheamus. But experience won't hinder The Celtic Warrior Sunday night.

You don't agree? Perfect. Feast your eyes on the following five reasons Sheamus can walk away with the gold Sunday night.

Sheamus Excels as the Underdog

Let's take a trip back in time.

The date is Dec. 13, 2009. The site is San Antonio, Texas. In a brutal match nobody expected him to win, Sheamus overcame SuperCena to become WWE Champion.

When looking at the line-up for Sunday night's main event, the clear underdog is Sheamus. Cena, Randy Orton and Edge have a combined 24 world title reigns, with Orton and Edge the seemingly clear-cut favorites to take the title from Cena should he lose it Sunday night.

Nobody is giving Sheamus a chance ... which may be just the way he'd prefer it.

Cena is Due to Lose the Title

For as many times as John Cena has held a world championship in WWE, he has never really held it for very long...especially lately.

Cena's current title reign is his longest since he was champion for more than a year from Sept. 2006 to Oct. 2007. With a recent history of holding the world title for no more than three months, the clock has potentially stricken midnight for Cena's ninth world championship reign.

And sure, the argument could be made for Orton or Edge to walk away with the strap Sunday night, but ...

Cena Needs a Feud This Summer

The Orton-Edge feud is building by the week, with no sign of slowing down this summer. The logical boiling point for this feud is a late-card match at SummerSlam, WWE's biggest event not named WrestleMania.

But who will Cena clash with? Enter Sheamus, who can take the title from Cena (again) and the two can build a heated, physical feud into a headlining match at SummerSlam.

Sheamus has been head-hunting Cena for weeks. After taking the WWE title Sunday night, Cena will have no choice but to take notice.

The Match Plays in the Heel's Favor

Fatal four-ways are a sure-fire way to change world champions without having to see the reigning champ actually get pinned.

Since Vince McMahon is seemingly hellbent on making John Cena bigger than Hulk Hogan, what better way to establish another star than having SuperCena lose the belt designed specifically for him in a match he doesn't have to be pinned in to lose?

If that isn't enough, there are three other superstars that can be beaten and cost Cena the title. The odds are clearly stacked against the champ.

Sheamus Has Friends in High Places

This point may be the most overlooked factor in Sunday night's match.

Sheamus is a workout partner to, and close working friend of, Triple H. We all know what kind of booking pull Trips has - if you're on The Game's good side, you're a made man.

Triple H can pull the strings to have Sheamus take the strap from Cena (a guy who has never seen eye to eye with Triple H) while The Game is out of the picture. If he felt so inclined, Triple H's storyline return could be a vengeful return at SummerSlam to take on the man that put him on the kayfabe sidelines...WWE Champion Sheamus.

With the cards stacked against the current WWE Champion, The Celtic Warrior may, in fact, be the man to watch in Uniondale, New York, Sunday night.
