U.S. Open Fantasy Golf Preview: Winning Foursome for Pebble Beach

Thomas MorelandJun 14, 2010

Some may say Tiger Woods is rusty and will not win a major this year.

Others, myself included, figure Woods wins every three to four times he tees it up, on an average.

The rust should fly off as Tiger plays on familiar California soil once more.

That said, even without a win, Tiger Woods will score points on this course in fantasy golf, and will be my A player choice this week.

Heath Slocom will be his backup, although it is unlikely that he will be activated this week.

In the B player positions will be K.J. Choi who always plays well with Tiger in the field for some reason.

My other B player will be Dustin Johnson who has won the last two times he has played here.

That has to be good for something, although the course is set up much different than the Pebble Beach Pro-Am event held every year.

My backup players to Johnson and Choi will be Lee Westwood and Jim Furyk.

Westwood walked into a victory with his eyes shut last week, so this might be a great after week for him.

Robert G, keep plugging away. How can you not just hit an iron out to the right, play for a bogey, and win that thing. I know it's already been beat to death, but all golfers can relate, but at the same time cringe at how that hole was played.

Van De lose it, all over again. Wow!

Anyway, I'm rambling. My C player will be my very reliable Ben Crane this fantasy season. His backup, who I seldom use, will be Shaun Micheel who has been playing great.

Maybe he can bump Crane from my starting C slot.

In Yahoo fantasy golf I continue my ascent, trying to reach the pinnacle of success in the golf fantasy world, which is not a big entity.

Currently I am standing in the 85th percentile with 3,391 points. That puts me in 11, 761st for spring and 21,498th place for the full season.

I am ahead of all of the Yahoo golf experts for the spring, and trail Matt Romig by only 41 points for the full season lead.

The U.S. Open is full of Tiger intrigue in how he will play this time out.

Waiting for Thursday.
