UFC 115: Rich Franklin Scores First Round Knockout of Chuck Liddell

The UFC took over Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada for UFC 115 live on pay-per-view.

GM Place, where the event was held, sold out in record time and the fans in attendance were given a main event finish that will go in the books as one of the best ever.

The main event of the evening featured two of the sport's biggest legends in Rich "Ace" Franklin and Chuck Liddell facing off in a light heavyweight fight that will be remembered for many years to come.

Early on in the first round, Franklin (26-5) was successful in landing leg kicks and strikes from the clinch. Liddell found brief success via a takedown but Franklin very effectively used butterfly guard to quickly get the fight back standing.

With both fighters now back on their feet, Franklin again landed low kicks and Liddell began to attack which was ultimately his undoing. At the 4:55 mark in the first round "Ace" landed a devastating right hand that sent Liddell to the canvas and Franklin followed up to put an exclamation on the fight.

Before Franklin landed the fight ending knockout he broke his left arm while blocking a Liddell kick which makes the light heavyweight's win even more impressive.

In an exclusive interview earlier in the week Franklin stated, "It’s going to be great energy live and I think that it’s going to be one of the best the UFC has ever had."

One of the best ever it was, as the main event knockout that Franklin delivered will undoubtedly be in highlight reels for many years to come.

With fourteen victories via (T)KO and the latest perhaps being the most impressive of his career, Rich "Ace" Franklin is indeed a very serious contender in the 205lb. division.
