WWE needs to drop the Spinner Belt
Lately I have been noticing a lot of attention being shown to a post I did a while back, concerning a rumour that was going around that the WWE was considering dropping the “Spinner Belt” So as a follow up to that, I have decided to add my 2 cents and discuss just why I feel this ridiculous looking Championship Belt must go.
The first thing, as I just mentioned, is that as far as Championship Belts are concerned, this thing looks more like some awful piece of junk jewelry that at best would be referred to as “Bling” To even refer to it as a Championship Title Belt is an insult to some of the best looking Titles that have come and gone. The picture I posted is a fine example of two such Belts to the right of the infamous Spinner. Which I have to say is probably the best picture I have ever seen to illustrate the point. It is also the best looking picture of The Spinner I have ever seen (that’s not saying much) and it still looks like garbage when shown next to two superior Titles.
Aside from the fact that I personally don’t like the look of the Belt, there are a couple of other reasons as to why I feel the current Belt must go. It is simply always going to be “John Cena’s” Belt. During the days of his rapper gimmick, he did this to the U.S. Title, and then later to the World Title. But John is no longer that character, yet the Belt stays the same. Which in my opinion makes it a tad insulting to the other Champions who wear it. As many people have pointed out, it just looks like anybody who wins it, is simply “holding” it for John, until he gets it back.
My last point is in reference to something I read just recently, that the WWE is looking to move towards a more “reality” based product. This of course in light of the NXT reality show, and recently the attack by the rookies on Monday Night Raw. If this is true, then the WWE should seriously consider bringing back a more traditional looking Title Belt, instead of sticking with something that was obviously designed so that kids would buy it. In other words, a toy. I understand that everything is about money, but they could still sell the Spinner design online, and at live events. But for the sake of the many Wrestling fans out there who have suffered through having John Cena shoved down their throats for so long, please do us all a favour and get rid of that Belt once and for all.
