The Devin Hester Show: Chicago Return Man Gets it Done Against Denver

Michael WhittenbergNov 26, 2007

In only his second year, Devin Hester is the best kick return guy in NFL, and Sunday's game against Denver showed why.

Thanks to Hester's heroics, the Chicago Bears got a much needed win at home, beating the Broncos 37-34 to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Hester returned not one, but two kicks for touchdowns in the third quarter to keep his team in the game.

The first kick returned was a punt. Hester caught the ball, broke left, made one cut, and was gone for a 75-yard return which tied the score at 13.

The Broncos scored on their next drive, giving them a 20-13 lead. But on the ensuing kickoff, the Broncos unwisely kicked the ball to Hester again. Hester returned the second kick for 88 yards, tying the game once more.

The two teams wound up going to overtime, and Chicago won the game with a field goal from kicker Robbie Gould.

It was the first time Hester made it to the end zone since October 14, when he returned a punt 89 yards against the Vikings.

Hester leads his team with six touchdowns, five of which have been kick returns.

The defending NFC champions have been inconsistent this year. Without Thomas Jones the offense has been bad and turnover-prone. The defense has looked nothing like last season's league leaders.

But the question for all other NFL teams remains: Why are you still kicking to Hester?

Denver chose to test him, and those two kicks cost the Broncos the game.
