NHRA Supernationals Qualifying Results From Old Bridge Township Raceway Park Englishtown, NJ.

Cory McClenathan set the quickest pass in the 1,000 ft history mark on Friday in qualifying for this weekend's 41st Annual NHRA Supernationals from Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. McClenathan took the Fram Top Fuel Dragster to the top of the chart with a blistering time of 3.752 at 324.75 mph in only a 1,000 foot. Brandon Bernstein in the Copart Dragster was second running a 3.807 at 313.73. Antron Brown, Steve Torrence and Tony Schumacher rounded out the top 5 Friday night.

Robert Hight seems to have a stronghold on Funny Car he has been the #1 qualifer the last couple of races including three wins until last week when Matt Hagan denied him the victory in Chicago. Hight in the AAA Auto Club Ford Mustang would blast back to the top on Friday in qualifying running a 4.025 at 313.00 mph with John Force in second at a 4.03 at 313.73 mph. Jeff Arend, last week's winner Matt Hagan and Bob Tasca round out the top 5 in Funny Car.

Mike Edwards once again led Friday qualifying for Pro Stock running a 6.513 at 211.49 mph in the Penhall/K&N/Interstate Batteries GXP. Edward's is coming off another victory and #1 qualifer last week at Chicago and is dominating the points everyone else should be glad for the Countdown because if not this thing would be over at least some would say. Vinnie Deceglie was second at a 6.548 at 210.93 mph Bob Yonke, Jason Line and Jeg Couglin in the top 5.

Michael Phillips in the Racers Edge Suzuki topped the Pro Stock Motorcylce qualifying Friday with a 6.855 at 197.16 mph over Hector Arana who was second at a 6.869 at 194.83 mph. Steve Johnson, Matt Smith and Karen Stoffer all round out the top 5 from Englishtown.

Although there was racing Friday in front of a large crowd, the day was somber and sadness over the track as Top Alcohol Funny Car Driver Neal Parker was killed in a qualifying crash at the end of the race track the NHRA reported Friday. The crash is being investigated and thoughts and prayers go out to the Parker family and everyone in the racing community. Scott Kalitta was killed at Englishtown back in June 2008 and memories of that day still linger as saftey improvements have been made, but auto racing in general is dangerous and the possibility is always there. May god bless the family and everyone touched by this tragedy.
