Summer League Bowling: Week Two, or is it Week Four, or is it Week One?

Thomas MorelandJun 11, 2010

After rejoining league bowling last week, I was a bit sore.

There are a few lower back muscles that get used a bit more frequently in the repetition of rolling a 15.8 lb ball 40 to 50 times in one night.

Last week I averaged 169 for three games. This week I was assigned a brand new eighth team to fill the league out.

Now, it is week one all over again for my new team. One bowler, was still missing, so it was three against four and we had none of our handicap showing but my 45 pins per game from last week.

These folks, Nanette and Dan are beginners to league play and just novice players, so I will be helping them as the season progresses.

My second three games of league I scored 190, 189. 212 for a 601 total. This was good, for just the second week back and no extra practice.

I am taking the ball mainly from the outside over about the 12 board, and throwing a nice hard down and in shot ala Walter Ray Williams. Success this week, Bam!

The Gray Rhino was hitting hard. I struck out in the 10th frame in the second game and had a four bagger in the last game.

With our handicap, our team won three out of four.

We will be bowling early every week so we can play three extra games to make up the first three weeks. The schedule will be great extra practice.

My new average going into next week will be 185.  I will have to bowl well to help my team as my handicap just dropped to about 23 pins a game instead of 45.

I prefer scratch leagues with no handicap at all but travel is hard during the week so I will keep it local. The better leagues are farther away.

There are good bowlers in this league with one guy and girl combo that both average over 215 so far this short season. We will see if they keep that up.

My goal is to average at least 190 to 200 for the Summer League, then get on a good team for the Fall season.

Bowling is a great way to meet new friends and relax in a friendly environment.

Good luck and good bowling.
