New York Mets End Losing Skid with Victory Against Phillies

The New York Mets have finally ended a bit of a losing skid with a 6-3 victory tonight over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Mets struck first, in the first, when Brett Myers walked in two runs to start off the game. The Phillies quickly recaptured the lead after back-to-back home runs, first from Shane Victorino and then from Geoff Jenkins. The Mets responded back to the Phillies when Damien Easley reached base on an infield single that brought home David Wright.

The Phillies would tie it up in the sixth when Jimmy Rollins doubled to score Carlos Ruiz. The Mets though threatend again in the bottom half of the sixth. They had Easley and catcher Brian Schneider on when Jose Reyes came up with a clutch three-run home run, his 11th of the year.

The Mets' bullpen then finally hung on to the lead as Scott Schoeneweis and Joe Smith held down the eighth and Billy Wagner came back from shoulder injury to pitch and recorded his 25th save of the season.

Mets' starter John Maine went seven strong letting up three runs on six hits, walking two and striking out five batters.

Phillies' starter Brett Myers made his first start since Jun. 27. Myers looked good only giving up three runs in five innings but it was Ryan Madson who lost it for the Phils in the sixth and he picked up loss number one on the year.

Mets and Phillies have a Thursday afternoon game at 1:05 p.m.
