Brownie Bites: Notable Quotes From Your Cleveland Browns (6/9/10)

Daniel WolfJun 9, 2010

Without any delay, here is the latest installment of Brownie Bites and quotes from your Cleveland Browns players.

Chris Gocong Excited to Be a Cleveland Brown

Back during the 2006 NFL draft, when Browns Head Coach Eric Mangini was coaching the New York Jets, there was one linebacker he really coveted—Chris Gocong.

Unfortunately, the Philadelphia Eagles earned Gocong five picks before the Jets attempted to acquire him in the third round. Many draft experts were confused by the Eagles' selection, as Gocong was projected as a 3-4, rather than 4-3, scheme outside linebacker.

Gocgon struggled in his first three season with the Eagles but was traded to the Browns this offseason. With the move, he is excited and is fitting in nicely.

"It's not like there are a lot of older guys who have been here a long time on this team," said Gocong to CBSSports.com. "Everyone's new and growing together and that has an exciting feel to it."

It has been reported from OTAs that Gocong has been spending time playing both inside and outside linebacker. His versatility to play both positions makes him a valuable asset in Rob Ryan's many defensive formations.

Tony Pashos Wants to Win

The Browns had issues at right tackle in 2009 until they moved right guard Floyd Womack to that position, and the team started to win games at the end of the season.

Signing a veteran like Pashos will, hopefully, cement the right side of the line in 2010, but Pashos is here not only to help the team—he wants to win, too.

"It's been awhile since I've been to the playoffs, and once you taste that sweet nectar, you can't wait to get it back," said Pashos to CBSSports.com. "I don't care what your logo says. When you're losing, it stinks."

An attitude like that is exactly what the Browns need in the locker room to keep morale up.

Colt McCoy On the Learning Curve In the NFL

"I'm just soaking it all in."

That quote speaks for itself, so let's move on.

Lawrence Vickers On His Offensive Role

"If they want me to be a linebacker-busting machine, I can do that."

How can you not love a player who says something like that?

Give Vickers a long-term deal right now—not only due to his performance throughout his NFL career so far; in my opinion, the above quote seals the deal.

Joe Thomas Sees Improvement In the Passing Game

Thomas is a third-year player and three-time Pro Bowler, so when he speaks, people listen.

After seeing how poorly the passing was last season, Thomas sees a much improved passing game at this point in the Browns' offseason.

"This spring we've really made a big focus on throwing the ball," said Thomas to CBSSports.com. "It seems like we've really improved our passing game so far...We're completing more passes, not turning the ball over and really moving on the defense."

This quote is encouraging because there are so many questions surrounding both the receiver group and veteran quarterback Jake Delhomme.

Just remember, the pads are not on yet and there has been no real contact, so we shall see how this plays out once training camp begins.

Josh Cribbs Will Be Everywhere On the Field In 2010

Cribbs got his new contract with more money earlier this year, and now he needs to play harder than before to prove his worth.

The hardest thing will be to not wear Cribbs down by using him too much—but Cribbs wants to play as much as possible while he is still young and full of energy.

"The older I get and the more talent we get on this team, the more [the number of plays] will die down," said Cribbs to Cleveland.com. "But for now, I want to do as much as I can to help us win."

I have no problem with playing Cribbs a lot, just as long as it doesn't lead to injury—because losing him would dramatically hurt what the offense can do.

Give Cribbs the ball, but keep his touches to around 15 per game please.
