Juan Castille, O-Line Are Key To Philadelphia Eagles' Plan, But Will It Work?

Here's The Plan But Will It Work?

By Coach Mike  http://bleacherreport.com/users/315337-mike-mcgough

It took a little time but I believe I have a pretty clear picture of what the Eagles WANT to do this year. Will they be able to pull it off or not? That is the real question.
In my opinion the 2010 Eagles will attempt to beat teams the way the Cardinals beat the Panthers 2 years ago in the play-offs. They will try to put up BIG points & put the opposition in the mind set that they better do the same or the Eagles will continue to score.
The key to this is not Kolb, it's the "O" Line.  If I could pick one coach on the Eagles staff to coach up a group to play better than any reasonable person has a right to expect, that coach would be Juan Castille. If the Birds O Line coach can overcome the hand Andy has dealt him this year, the Eagles "O" could put pressure on teams that I HOPE would lead to success.

Kolb QB play will come second because if he is not protected , he will not have success. However , if he is protected the Birds could pressure opponents into playing a game that they are building a defense to stop. That game is we WILL SCORE so you better keep up.

To a man , almost every player who I believe will contribute or start on "D" is a better pass defender than a run defender.
When the Eagles were drafting , all I kept saying was you will see more 34 looks than ever before. I believe their pass "D" could look a lot like the Steelers. Ends dropping into coverage, zone blitzes. I believe you will see a very different look from the Birds D this year.  If the Birds dictate the game the way I think they want. Opposing teams will throw more than ever before, in an effort to keep up. Graham & Cole coming off the edges are just part of it. Ernie Simms is a big upgrade on the weak side & a GREAT cover guy. Nate Allan @ FS is an absolute pass first talent. There were several Free Safeties the Eagles could have taken & passed on who would have been better against the run.
The guys who seal it for me are the guys like Te'o Nesheim who might not see a lot of early playing time (SPECIAL TEAMS) but he will be that back up D.E. who plays DT in pass situations. Keenan Clayton another ST guy was the fasted LB @ the Combine. Ricky Sapp is a flat out 34 LB who can rush the passer & they will use this guy in the Clemons role. Sapps a LB/DE
The Birds are daring teams to run the ball & try to match them point for point.  Will it work? There re a lot of players that need to step up & if they do, it should be interesting. The thing that excites me the most is the upgraded coaching. How much will the upgrades help. Put it this way, The Eagles "D" under Jim Johnson NEVER blew coverages  & tackled the way that team did last year. It was a disgrace. Selfish football if you ask me & the young Def Co. has a year under his belt & Dick Jauron to put his stamp on this defense.
Def. Backs & "D" asst.(DICK JAROUN)
Any guy who coaches his way to a Head Coach spot had to excel as an assistant and Coordinator. Jaroun was no exception & will help the young McDermott BIG TIME.
Conditioning - I have always thought this was a MAJOR problem (BARRY RUBIN & KEN CRONER)

Philadelphia Eagles announced that they have named Barry Rubin head strength and conditioning coach and Ken Croner assistant strength and conditioning coach. This is a long over due upgrade that could show up on the OL.

Special Teams ( BOBBY APRIL)
>PRO FOOTBALL TALK PRE SIGNING> "Long one of the best special teams coaches in football, April doesn't figure to be a free agent for long.  April is a rare difference maker at his coaching position, and doesn't cost an owner much relatively to upgrade a team's chances for winning."

The thing is when you are good, like the Birds have been, you loose coaches that are harder to replace than the higher profile players. I think that last year & even in 08 , the Birds were more lucky that good @ times. Anyone who couldn't see the state of confusion on D last year was not looking very hard. I think AR has upgraded this teams coaching to a point where it was 6 years ago. If I'm right it will show mostly in the Defensive Backfield & on Special Teams.
