Edmonton Sets Grey Cup Record

Steve ThompsonJun 8, 2010

If any Bleacher fans were thinking of getting a ticket to the 2010 Grey Cup in Edmonton on November 28, they are already too late.

Edmonton set a Grey Cup record by selling all the tickets within a week of putting them on sale, starting on June 1.

With that problem on the shelf, organizers now say they'll concentrate on creating festival events for the week.

This is the second piece of good news concerning tickets that the CFL has received this year.

The first was the quick sell out of tickets to this year's experimental Touchdown Atlantic game in Moncton, New Brunswick.

So far, 2010 has proved to be a major success for the CFL, but taking baby steps instead of big, bold strides.

In addition to the ticket sale successes, the temporary BC stadium is nearing completion at small cost and construction began on Winnipeg's new permanent home.

Montreal has also expanded its stadium by a modest 5,000 seats.

The next major event on the horizon is the long delayed, hoped for approval of the Lansdowne Live project by Ottawa's city council by the end of this month, which includes a new stadium.

If that comes to pass, the definite return date of Ottawa to the CFL can finally be set.

Unresolved issues are the 2015 Pan American Games stadium in Hamilton and a rumored new stadium for Saskatchewan.

It's progress, but on a modest scale.  Bundled together, clearing all these issues up, is a good step forward for the league.

It's where they go from there that's going to be the more interesting adventure.
