Megumi Fujii: The Pound-For-Pound Queen Of MMA Returns at Bellator 21

Dale De SouzaJun 7, 2010

Tomorrow will make it officially one month since the announcement was made that Japanese fighter Megumi Fujii, widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound female fighter in MMA, will make her return to the cage at Bellator 21 .

Announced today via the offcial page of Bellator Fighting Championships was the news that the 36-year-old female sensation would be returning to action stateside for the first time in three years.

A Judo and Jiu-Jitsu black belt who is undefeated in nineteen career fights, sixteen of Megumi's fights have ended by submission, with only three fights going to the judges' scorecards.

Fujii has yet to see the "Win" column by way of a TKO or a knockout.

Also joining Fujii will be 11-1 British Tae-Kwon-Do black belt Rosi Sexton — regarded as the best female fighter at 125 pounds, as well as Seattle's own submission specialist Lisa Ward and the undefeated Southern California striker with seven wins and no defeats, Jessica Pene.

In the meantime, "Mega Megu" will have to contend with the likes of American Jiu-Jitsu Academy's own Sarah Schneider, a woman with four wins and four losses in her pro career.

Half of Schneider's wins come by way of submission, while half of her losses come by way of the judges' scorecards.

Fujii is no doubt going to have to end this before the fight reaches round three in order to keep her record intact.

Keeping the fight on the ground and controlling Schneider there for as long as possible might prove to be a strong plan of action as well for Fujii.

Bellator 21 will be coming to you live from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

The card will be highlighted by the lightweight finals of Season Two, as Filipino submission machine Toby Imada faces off against Pat Curran for a shot at Eddie Alvarez in Season Three of Bellator Fighting Championships.

With today's announcement sending shock waves throughout the MMA world, another highlight can stand out on Bellator's 21st event:

The pound-for-pound queen has returned to her sport.
