Sorry Robby, This Weekend Proved It, You Are As Dumb As They Say!
I have enjoyed watching Robby run ever since I raced against him in the desert 20 years ago and I will always be a fan of his, but boy this guy may be the dumbest driver ever to strap on a helmet.
I never used to believe it was true when I heard the likes of Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon or any of the others would talk about his great ability, but criticize him for being a really dumb guy once he put his helmet on. But I think this weekend truly proved just how dumb this guy is.
Why this change of heart you ask? Robby had a decision to make this week. After another weak showing last week, he dropped out of NASCAR's Top 35 and would have to qualify on speed to make the Pocono race this weekend. A daunting task for any driver on a regular basis, but it is especially bad for Robby when you look at how well this worked out for him when he started his team in 2005. So with this change, what did Robby decide to do? He decided to put Ted Musgrave in his car this weekend to practice and try to qualify while he went and raced in the Baja 500. If Ted made the race, Robby would jet back to Pocono and get in the car for Sunday's race. Granted, Robby is the defending champion in Baja, but let's get real for a minute or two. Baja will pay him about as much as a start and parker this weekend in Pocono.
The problem is that even if the money is even, what about the upcoming races he may not make because he has to qualify on time each week. Add that to the sponsorship dollars he will loose because of all the sponsors he won't get.
Now, not be be a Ted hater because he was a great racer, a decade ago and hasn't been in a cup car since 2003. But you would think that with all of the changes Nascar has made over the last few years that Ted would be at a disadvantage already and then the rocket scientist at RGM had him run only 12 practice laps to help him get used to the car and get ready to qualify.
So, here's to wishing that NASCAR will start letting them race without wearing helmets and maybe one of the best racer's can make smarter decisions and create a winning team in the likes of Childress or at this point, even a Yates type of operation because nobody needs a dumb Robby Gordon.
