Club Cricket: Abergele Beat Brymbo In Style
Abergele made their performance of the season thanks to a wonderful all round game from Wasim Ali, Karl Higgins bowling, and Ed Rooney and Dewi Davies showing strong with the bat.
Brymbo won the toss and batted first.
This seemed to be the right decision until Higgins found the edge of Maitra's bat. Davies spilled the ball first but sharp thinking from David Moulson got Gele the break through, Moulson's one handed catch stopped a very handy partnership with the score at 26.
Nigel Roberts and Edward Filer added well to the score but when Ali took the catch of Filer, the wickets continued to fall, with Filer departing for 30.
Davies took a good catch to see the back of Nigel Roberts and Ali took a good catch and bowled to get rid of Bourne.
Moulson then took a catch in the slips to see Gele breaking into the tail, this one off the bowling of Ali.
Wickets continued to fall and Brymbo finished on a respectable 153 all out of their 45 overs. Pick of the bowlers were Ali who took 5-32, Higgins 4-42, and Amer Jamil 0-20 off his 12 overs, showing good support to Ali.
Ben Roberts made a gutsy 33 before being bowled off the last ball of the inning by Higgins.
Gele's reply was fast and furious. Davies and Martin Hedge put on 71 before Davies was adjudged and caught behind. Davies departed for 45 of just 52 balls to give Gele a platform.
Hedge, who scored 34, was given LBW off the bowling of Nigel Roberts.
Tony Ward and Rich Marsh-Evans followed the openers back to the dressing room, hardly troubling the scorers.
This brought Ali and Rooney together who got Abergele into cruise control, but with nine runs to win, Ali decided to leave a straight ball from Nigel Roberts.
Rooney finished unbeaten on 45*.
Pick of the bowlers were Nigel Roberts who finished with 3-45 and Filer who had 2-27.
This was a good win for Abergele. Now lets hope they can build on their good recent form against Dolgellau next Saturday.
