A Typical Arsenal Conversation, Is Theo a Lost Cause: and Do We Need Cole Pt2
MAF : Guys! The World Cup starts in a week’s time. We'll assess them not on Spain or France’s performances, but STRICTLY on individual performances. I have always said that on the ball, there are few players in the Premiership as confident and rugged like Abou Diaby, in all my time i can only think of one...Patrick Viera.
BB : MAF stop this please. He is likened to Vieira based on his looks and the way he tears through midfield, The defensive aspect of his game is seiously lacking.
MAF : Whatever, we will judge them based STRICTLY on individual performances and I am sure he will be better respected next season.
DB : I don't think Theo is a lost cause, he'll be like those Bentleys and Sidwells. Not exciting, but ok.
He is the model of most English players: They never know the game, they learn with time and become just ok towards the end of their career.
Theo would hate Wenger and Arsenal after we sell him to Stoke, and will score against Arsenal every season. He will then blame Wenger in his autobiography for missing the world cup that England won. But by then Wenger would have been dead, probably shot by some angry Arsenal fan. Steve Bould will take over and win a double and after that he'll leave us for Real Madrid! Enough of the future! He is just average!
MAF : Typical Arsenal!
GG : Let’s hope Theo learns from Rio Ferdinand. Picked for France 98 at about 18 or 19 years but didn’t play a game…then dropped from the Euro 2000 Squad. An ever present since then. The Theo I know is determined enough to prove his doubters wrong. I just pray we can see more than those odd flashes of brilliance he showed against Reading, Slavia, Croatia and Barcelona.
BB : Last season during the summer break, Abou Diaby stayed back in London training and his game improved. Although he reverted back to his normal ways after some beautiful games for Arsenal. Theo should stay and train and build his 'footie' brain while watching DVD's of the best wingers in the world (Finidi, Beckham, McManaman). He should learn how to take set pieces and introduce another dimension to his game, only then will he be a developing player who not only and shows us glimpses of brilliance.
MAF : Theo should have come to Manchester United but like all other 'english greats' he chose another club, we truly wish him well.
What Arsenal needs is a matter of urgency and experienced players that can help the young talented side.
Keep Almunia. For all his blunders, I think he is still a decent enough goalie. Keep Gallas and get rid of Silvestre--why did u guys even get him in the first place? If it is true, Cole will do you a lot of good. In addition to all this hullabaloo about Chamakh, sign Raul and don’t let Fabregas go
BB : Let’s look at the keepers of the title winning sides of 2010:
England: Van der Sar (1), Cech (2) – undisputed world class.
Spain: Valdes (1), De Gea (1), Romero (1) – all world class.
Italy: Cesar(3)
Need I say more? Attackers win you games but your defence wins titles! Calamity Munia is a good but not a great keeper and we will never win anything with him as our number one no matter if we keep Cesc. Buy Lucio, Samuel and David Villa.
I can wager my next salary on it.
MAF : Keepers are important. True. We will NEVER know how good a keeper is till he has a stingy defence in front of him and a stable midfield in front of them and a sharp attack in front of them too. Can you say Arsenal have these? I doubt that. Lets look at Barca in 2006 they were said to have an Achilles heel in person of Valdes and he was made to look average, and even though Barca dominated everywhere he wasn’t called up to the national team.
Today Barca are dominating and Valdes is being called up to the national team and some even say on the basis of clean sheets, saves and understanding with Spain’s 1st choice centre backs he should win his first cap. Did Valdes suddenly get better? NO! He just got a stingy defence in front of him. So while we say that Almunia is not a great keeper lets remember that he doesn’t have a stingy defence in front of him and a stable midfield in front of them and a sharp attack in front of them.
BB : Thanks you MAF for putting the obvious truth that most people know but Arsene and some Wenger lovers seem not to agree with. As for me, I will leave all further comments until the start of the 10/11 season when I see who we release and buy. Till Matchday One.
MAF : August 14 2010 will be a great day. GG any final word on the squad quota system for next season? What is the implication for teams, how much leeway is there to get new players, would teams have to sell to buy?
TN : BB is really angry, I was just speaking to MAFA that if Arsenal was in Nigeria, angry fans would probably beaten Arsene up a few times. The British people are very nice to allow his madness/sickness to get so unbearable.....Arsenal is surely the laughing stock of the big teams, especially when he stooped so low as to buy Silvestre - he even had the guts to say he may keep him if Gallas goes....sick!
As with the Arsenal Way, lets hope he does the right thing, if Walcott stays fit I can bet he will be a better player next season. Of course he is not a van Persie, but he can be a good starter for Arsenal. Buying Sorenson, a defender (as Gallas is surely leaving) Yaya Toure (I wish we could pull it off) will really make us steady, I can bet the rest of the team can do well if they add some brains to their games!!!! By the way, I wonder if we are going to change formations with Chamakh or will RVP shift to the left........what do you folks think?
DB : All I want for Theo is that we should buy him DVDs of Messi and if we cannot get them as early enough, just simply go across to Lane and get tapes of Aaron Lennon. The entire problem he has is his decision making on the ball and his positioning off it. When he is not with the ball he seems clueless. When he is with it and there is no space in front of him (why he never gets to beat Evra), he is clueless (note Man Utd never double on him)
When he gets into open space and NOBODY is marking him at the edge of the box HE GETS CLUELESS (and puts a cross into open space). All he needs is to come for our Friday games and see Iliyasu or MAF (who do not even clock 14s over 100m) take on a whole herd of players and still put in a performance worth clapping for. I wish we sold him!
DB : By the way, have you all noticed that MAF keeps praising all our mediocre players! He knows if we can change them the club would be much better for it and we could pip them to something. So he keeps stroking up class acts like Almunia, Flapianski or Diaby. I never praise Nani, I know he is S***
