The Good, The Bad and The Injured

London GirlJun 4, 2010

Last weekend was Memorial Weekend in the USA. For my English fans who are clueless as to what this is (as was I) its the equivalent of Remembrance Day but is on the last Monday of May and a lot of things are closed and a lot of streets are empty. Great for playing street-hockey.

The NFL guys were really excited because this weekend no NFL player got into serious trouble or were arrested or found in any compromising situations (obviously Ben was on his good behaviour regime). The fact no-one has been handcuffed is thought of as a break-through?

Jeez...I maintain my stance that throwing a large amount of money at an NFL player (especially a rookie) is the equivalent to submerging their character defects in miracle grow. Think The Mask.

I also wonder which players are known the most...the good boys, the bady boys or the injured ones? And who better than to answer this question than moi...with my limited knowledge and very recent benediction into the NFL fan cult.

Me: "What players do you know about as a result from media attention"?

Me: "Hmmm ..are we excluding the ones I know because they are exceedingly fine specimens of man"

Me: "Yes...not the ones you drool over like a St Bernard....the ones that have good, bad and other media attention"

Me: "Okay I will compile a list that can be added to by anyone who wants to. I do like drooling sometimes"

The Good

# No 1 Tom Brady. (Sorry to all you groaning Jets, Colts and Miami fans).Yep Mr B is the top of my list because he is probably the most well known QB, 3x time Superbowl winner, underdog (199th pick) turned superstar and dam hot. The pinnacle of Goodliness - cue Sacred Angel music. The New England Pats also have it written into their contracts to perform a certain amount of non-profit charity work. Crafty Krafty. Brady also turned up to the OTA's this week and got the hearts of all Pats fans racing in excitement once again, and therefore deserves to be mentioned first.

#No 2 Drew Brees. Who can forget the scenes of Mr B holding his young son on the field with his eyes glistening with emotion and the confetti pouring down on the newly crowned Superbowl victor and father. Poignant. They have made huge murals in Europe of lesser scenes.

Super Bowl XLIV

#No 3 Tim Tebow. Of course, butter-wouldn't-melt-in-my-mouth-Tebow. Most speculated player of the 2010 Draft and seller of the most T-shirts in April 2010, picked by Josh Mcdaniels for the Denver Broncos. He has just taken up the 3rd QB place on the team, with the release of Tom Brandstater on Friday. He's got gazillions of awards and is a MAJOR goodie-boy. And of course everyone is VERY interested to see how he plays out at the Broncos in the future. Big media attention...lots of TT tattoos being needled as we speak.

The Bad

#No 1 Ben Roethlisberger.  Major amounts of press coverage about various bathroom escapades, so much it's nauseating. I am sure Steelers fans aren't enamored with the press coverage either (or is that enamelled?). This week Ben returned to the OTA's and bought all the media with him to the field. They had a picnic with wieners- not really. He told them that he was "kind of" excited about his new clean image.Yeah, no more entouragey nightclub sprees for you Mr R. Get used to the BBQs in your backyard and hours of guitarhero with your new mullet-free hair.

#No 2 Hmm this was a tricky one because there have been SO MANY arrests in the NFL. They are all reported here onNFLcrimesblog if you want more info. It's amazing to me how many battery and domestic violence cases there are. Cor Blimey. Serious anger management therapists needed in the teams (now there's not a bad little earner). I couldn't decide who to put here and then decided I don't want to give those feckwits more energy and attention than they already have had.So feck 'em (as the Irish say).

The Injured

# No 1 Wes Welker. He was at the New England OTA's this week with his knee in a support but he was RUNNING AROUND!! I know that does not sound like a big deal for a footballer...they all run around I know. But after the kind of injury he had its pretty incredible that he is running around and throwing things. Yay Wes!

NFL: New England Patriots-Practice In London

# No 2 Peyton Manning. He had surgery on his neck in March and reports say that he is now fully recovered. He could, of course, also be in The Good category as he's a model QB with a lot of fans, who can handle himself like a pro (take note Ben). He was out at the Colts minicamp too altho some of his team members were not. Seems that thColts had a lot of players sitting out due to injury.

#No 3 Jeremy Shockey. Shockey did actually shock everyone by collapsing last week and there were many speculations as to why.The media of course, all suddenly become profound medical experts, biggin it up when actually Sean Payton now says Shockey needed a few glasses of ye old H2O. Now his back has kicked in so is he just a-crumbling in front of our very eyes? Ahh Jeremy we hope you get better soon.

So that's the GBI list so far. Assessment? Well obviously The Good Boys have  a lot of fun, hot girlfriends and get talked about in other countries other than the USA , bad boys are just complete pains in the derriere and the injured boys need to be nursed like little birds- need any nursing boys, drool drool?

There are MANY more Good than Bad me thinks. So what are your top 3x good, bad and injured? Would love to know.
