O.J. Atogwe a Perfect Fit For Dallas?

Jon HerrmannJun 2, 2010

Safety Oshiomogho (O.J.) Atogwe is officially on the market after the Rams chose not to offer him the nearly $7 million they would have needed to in order to assure his services for the 2010 season.

This seems like a dream come true for the Dallas Cowboys who have a glaring need at the free safety position opposite Gerald Sensabaugh.

The Rams would still like to re-sign Atogwe, and the Dolphins and Vikings have also apparently shown interest.

Atogwe, who missed the last four games last season due to injury, managed 74 tackles, three forced fumbles and two interceptions last season.

He will turn 29 before the start of training camp. If Dallas can manage to obtain his services he would give them an experience, but still young, player to help develop players like Mike Hamlin, Alan Ball, and Akwasi Owusu-Ansah.

O.J. Atogwe has had at least 75 tackles since 2006 and has 19 interceptions and 14 forced fumbles in five NFL seasons.

He would be an immediate upgrade to the Cowboys' secondary, putting the team's defense in definite contention to be the league's best.

Pair that with an offense that is already explosive and Dallas could be one of the most dangerous teams in the NFL next season.

Jerry Jones needs to open his wallet on this uncapped year and go after Atogwe big time. He could mean the difference between a Super Bowl victory and just another playoff run.

Atogwe is a perfect fit for this Dallas team.
