WWE Monday Night Raw Review: Monday May 31st

Chris O ConnallJun 1, 2010

Welcome to my first review of Raw in some time.

Edge attacks Evan Bourne, Randy Orton attacks Edge:

For once, when Cole said: ''What an explosive start to Raw!'', he wasn't lying. I normally fast forward the pyro ect at the start but tonight, I found myself rewinding! Great way to start the show,  nice push for Evan Bourne and Edge feels the viper's venom once more. Also, some great mic work from Edge.

R-Truth vs Chris Jericho

A solid tv match between these stars. The fans were really into it. There was some great spots, some terrific counters and a decent finish. I'm glad WWE decided to put Truth over.(By the way, I will be publishing an article about Y2J soon, so please check it out.)

Rating: 4/5

Eve & Santino vs Regal & Maryse

This match was an average contest at best. There were some ok moves throughout but the finish was just completely botched. I know this may be harsh, but can Kozlov pull off a botch-free move or compete in a botch-free match? I don't think so.

Unfortunately, the low standard of moves/execution and the shortness of the match is reflected in the rating.

Rating: 2/5

Bret Hart Promo, VKM Promo

This was actually a quite interesting segment. It got a whole lot more interesting when ''No Chance in Hell'' echoed throughout the arena. Beautiful reaction when the fans heard his music.

I have to say, VKM may have looked a bit stupid dancing around the ring, but he somehow did not look out of place. He has the charisma and can always garner a fan reaction!

Bret's mic work was actually pretty good tonight and VKM was his usual self - playing the kind babyface before what I predict will be a vicious heel turn.

Rating: 5/5

The Miz vs Daniel Bryan, Post match attack

This match could have been so much more- a match promising an exhibition of technical brilliance turned out to be a disappointing waste of time. It was allotted a piss poor amount of time.

A slightly botched finish drags down the rating slightly. I like the way the interactions between Cole and Bryan have unfolded - should be interesting to see where it goes from here.

Uso's Promo and attack on Hart Dynasty

First of all, these guys need some mic work, and fast. I found it difficult to comprehend what they were saying. But aside from that, what a segment. A great attack. Two brilliant finishers on display and what a clothesline from Tamina!

Once again, the fans made this segment!

Rating: 3/5

WWE Raw: Guess Who?

What a ridiculous segment. Like anybody believed he had put a 'hit' on Ryder. Stupid distractions from Lawler, Khali and Goldust. We all knew it was going to be Alisha. Anybody with half a brain could see it coming a mile off.

Rating: 1/5

Edge & Sheamus vs Cena & Bourne

The obvious replacement - Evan Bourne. But apart from that, this was a really good match. Yet again, the fans were really into it. Some great moves and a fantastic finish. Things are really looking good for Bourne after last night.

Rating: 5/5

Final Thoughts:

Not a bad episode of Raw tonight, but definitely not a great show. Raw seemed to be a sort of

''OK, its time to get the finger out. Evan is a great talent and we need to use him properly. By the way, lets also attempt to revive the tag division by signing a new team and developing a good storyline.''

I have no problem with this and I applaud WWE for this decision. However, it needn't happen every week.

I'm really looking forward to next weeks Raw. I hope WWE don't fix the results and I hope they don't restrict the options for fans. However, they probably will.

Final Rating: 3.5/5
