Game One of the 2010 NBA Finals starts Thursday night between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics.

This will mark the 12th time in history that these two teams have met each other in the NBA Championship.

This is the rivalry of the NBA.

These are the two franchises of the league.

The Celtics have won 17 NBA titles. The Lakers have won 15. The next best team has six titles.

The Celtics and Lakers combine for more than half of the league's titles. They are the powerhouses of the NBA.

Its interesting, however, that while they have both enjoyed great success in this league, one of these teams has gotten the majority of the success when they face each other.

The Boston Celtics have dominated this rivalry.

The Celtics are 9-2 all-time in NBA Finals series when they are playing the Lakers.

They have a playoff record of 40-27 against the Lakers.

The Celtics are 4-0 all-time in Game 7's against the Lakers.

The only success that the Lakers have had against the Celtics came in a few short years from 1985 to 1987, when they beat them in the Finals twice in three years.

For the most part, though, it has been all Celtics.

From the four-game sweep in 1959 when they first met, to the 131-92 beat-down the last time they met, the Celtics have always seemed to get the better of the Lakers.

History may be against the Lakers, but they do hold homecourt advantage this time.

Both teams are playing very well, and this years version should be just as entertaining as the last 11.
