Fantasy Sports: Sign Up for World Cup Fantasy Football

Jamrock RoverMay 28, 2010

The build up to the World Cup continues and the friendly games are coming thick and fast. The only game of note for Arsenal fans last night was a 2-0 win for Denmark over Senegal.

With one match tonight and another 14 tomorrow, there are only two of Arsenal's players involved as Song will be with the Cameroon squad to play Slovakia and Cesc should be with the Spanish squad to play against Saudi Arabia. Both games are scheduled for Saturday afternoon/evening.

I've started a couple of fantasy football leagues for the World Cup and anyone and everyone is welcome to join. Just log on to the website , register, and use the following codes to join my private leagues.

For the Oleole league, which can have as many teams as possible, the code is 221858-52981; for the Oleole head-to-head league, which has two spots left, the code is 221858-53209. Feel free to enter as many teams as you want and get your friends to sign up, too. The more, the merrier.

Once you've signed up you won't be able to select your team until the squads are finalised June 4th, but it will easier if you register as soon as possible.

I'll run a preview before the competition starts June 11th, and I'll be entering a few teams myself. I'm considering entering a team of Arsenal players to see how they get on, although it will need to have a non-Arsenal goalkeeper for certain, as none of ours will be making the trip to South Africa.

Actual Arsenal news is thin on the ground again today, although Arseblog has a very good take on the story in the Mirror about Cesc supposedly telling friends he wants to leave because the chairman said he wasn't good enough to play for Barcelona. I know footballers can be dumb and petty, but I don't personally think Cesc fits into either of those categories.

We are again linked with Gary Cahill of Bolton but with a supposed £30 million price tag and Man City sniffing around, there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of Arsenal signing him.

Somebody commented on LadyArse's blog about players mentioned in the transfer speculation on the club site. They said that it might be an indicator of players we aren't interested in, as if we were interested, surely the club wouldn't announce it.I had been thinking along similar lines myself, and it makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

I haven't seen Mertesacker's name mentioned yet so hopefully we'll see him unveiled as a new signee quite soon, as long as we're actually interested in him and his club agree to it.

Speaking of players being tapped up, does anyone else think it's outrageous that Mourinho can spout off players' names currently under contract with other clubs that he'd like to sign when he takes over at Real Madrid?

With the World Cup coming up I'm sure their clubs aren't too happy, but then again neither he nor Real Madrid have ever really cared about rules or regulations and with the football authorities not bothered either, what's to stop him?

Since the season has ended hardly a day goes by without talk of Wilshere going back to Bolton on loan at the start of next season, or possibly going to Newcastle instead. The new season is a long way off, and I think he should just enjoy his summer and let the club decide what to do with him.

By that stage we'll know what players have been added to and removed from our squad and what his chances are of getting a few games for Arsenal next season.

In other news, young Benik Afobe made one of the goals as England's under 17s made it to the final of the European Championships with a 2-1 win over France. They'll either play Turkey or Spain in Sunday's final.

That's the lot for today but don't forget to enter the fantasy football if you can.

Here's a look at how good Freddie was at the end of the 2001/02 double season.

See You Tomorrow.
