Unbelieveable! Mets Shut Out Phillies Over Three-Game Sweep
NEW YORK-- If you had said on Tuesday that the Mets would sweep the Phillies, it would've sounded rediculous. If you had said on Tuesday that the Mets would sweep the Phillies and not allow a single run, I would've thought you were more than nuts.
Well, the Mets pulled off the unbelieveable on Thursday night by shutting out the Phillies 3-0 behind an effectively wild Mike Pelfrey.
The game was delayed almost two hours by rain and once it began, both the fans and the Mets were fired up.

Pelfrey got off to a roaring start in the first as he struck out two batters en route to a one-two-three inning.
In the Mets first, Jose Reyes led off with an infield single. Two batters later, Jason Bay doubled him in to give the Mets an early 1-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Mike Pelfrey wasn't perfect, but he was good enough going up against a Phillies team who just can't score any runs.
He got into trouble in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, but in each inning got an inning-ending double play.
In the sixth, the Phillies had first and third with nobody out but the Phillies once again didn't score. Chase Utley flew out to center field and Ryan Howard grounded into the shift at second to end the inning.
In the seventh, Raul Ibanez--who singled--was caught stealing second base to erase another Phillies baserunner. Pelfrey went seven innings, allowing three hits, striking out five and walking five.
In the seventh, the Mets added on two big runs. Jeff Francoeur lead off with a single but was replaced at first base by Henry Blanco on a fielder's choice. Fernando Tatis, pinch-hitting for Pelfrey, hit a ball to third baseman Placido Polanco, who bobbled it trying to turn two. Jose Reyes came up and doubled in both runs to extend the Mets lead to 3-0.
In the ninth, Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez retired the Phillies 3-4-5 hitters in order to complete the three-game shutout sweep.
For the Mets, it's the first time they've shut out a team over a three-game sweep since 1969 when they coincidentally did it against the Phillies themselves. It's the first time the Mets had three straight games with a shut out of any kind since 1988.
So after pulling off one of the most remarkable feats in team history, they now close the gap to two games behind the Phillies in the NL East, as they've won five in a row.
The Mets, who are 6-14 on the road this season, head to Milwaukee to start a three-game weekend series and a six-game road trip that will take them to San Diego after that. Johan Santana will take the ball tomorrow opposite Yovani Gallardo.
