Like It or Not, Vitali Klitschko Would Compete in Any Era

Tyler CurtisMay 27, 2010

I’ll say this right off the bat: This is not an article saying that Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko are fun to watch. The point is, whether you like it or not, the Klitschkos are very good.

Everyone complains and bashes them because of their style. Well, guess what: It has carried them both to the heavyweight title.

Before this ramble goes on further, I want to focus on Vitali. He is making a defense against Albert Sosnowski. Is this a good defense? Not at all.

Chances are he will walk right through Sosnowski. This is the man who almost got knocked out by the powerless Zuri Lawrence.

There were better fights out there for him; I will admit that. The thing is, though, you can’t bash him because this heavyweight pool is weak.

I don’t understand why people bash the Klitschkos because they don’t fight in a division as deep as the heavyweight division from the 1970s.

Here is the problem with that complaint. The Klitschkos would be competitive in any era—especially Vitali.

He is rough, has an iron chin, and has great power. His size would be a problem for any heavyweight in any era.

Although his style is slow and he wins by basically beating you down over seven or eight rounds, he is good. He isn’t the fastest guy around, but his power makes up for that.

I am one of the very few people who get up for a heavyweight title fight. There is just something about a heavyweight title fight, regardless of who is in it, that I love.

I am also one of the very few people who actually like the Brothers Klitschko. They are good and you have to respect them.

You can tell me about their soft opponents or lack of a killer instinct. Guess what? They are still the two best heavyweights in the world.

Will Sosnowski have a real shot at Vitali? Probably not. Will I defend his decision to fight him? Not at all.

This is a soft fight for him, but he has his eye on David Haye. If he wins, that will be right in his sights.

Everyone wants to tell their kids, “I saw the best heavyweight of the last 20 years.” Not many people will be saying that about the Klitschkos.

Believe it or not, I will be one of the people telling my kids just that. Face it—the Klitschkos are that good.
