Best Defense Is a Good Offense, & It Better Be For Sanfrancisco 49ers!
Those were the wise words of modern day sage Mel, the cook on Alice. For our beloved 49ers, and their 2010 campain, truer words have never been spoken. I was worried about our defense, and while I still am, it has been pointed out to me that the unit should hold. Here are some reasons why.
One Ted Ginn. I know Coach Sing wants to develop him as a receiver, and this is good news. He is the deep threat we have lacked for years. He eats up cushion, and seperates with ease. The knock on Ginn is his route running, and concentration. However with Crabtree firmly established ,as the number 1 receiver, I think Ginn can flourish without the pressure of his high draft status in Miami. At worst he adds depth to the return game. One of the 49ers biggest weaknesses from 2009. The offense will have alot more options not working from inside their 20 yard line all the time. Giving the defense an advantage in field position, they just didn't have last year. Two. Kyle Williams, and Leroy Vann. After playing musical chairs in the return game last season, with minimal results, this year their is an abundance of options. If you dont know who Vann is, he's an ufa, we picked up after the draft. Check him out on youtube. He flys! Its downright unbelievable how he went undrafted. You will be picking your jaw up off the desk after you see this kid burn up the field. So with these additions, shorter fields will be such an advantage. It was sad last year how bad the return game was. It crippled us! Look for this year the special teams to be at least an improved, if not utterly explosive, ala Deven Hester, Josh Cribbs! With the improvements to the o-line also look for the running game to put the team in more 3rd, and shorts, while keeping Alex Smith upright to deliver his passes the offense should be the biggest improvement for the defence this year. Allowing them much needed breathers throughout the games, expect the Niner's D to be better rested, faste, and destructive to opposing offenses. So while the D has not changed much itself this offseason everything around it has. With proper rest, better play as a team, this team looks to give us fans plenty to cheer for! GO NINERS!!!!
