Jerome Harrison Leads by Example for Cleveland Browns' Other Unsigned RFAs

Daniel WolfMay 27, 2010

Good news for the Cleveland Browns, as restricted free agent running back Jerome Harrison has put his contract quandary aside and arrived at the Browns' training facility for organized team activities, as reported by Cleveland.com.

This is a huge step in the right direction for Harrison. Even though he is still unsigned, it shows that he is willing and committed to the team first and foremost.

Hopefully, this giant leap of faith that Harrison has taken will pave the way for the other RFAs, including linebacker D'Qwell Jackson, linebacker Matt Roth, fullback Lawrence Vickers, and safety Abe Elam.

Harrison is coming off one of the hottest streaks a Browns running back has quite possibly ever had, running for well over 500 yards in the last three games of the 2009 season and breaking Jim Brown's single-game rushing record too.

Many experts and former NFL players talk about the importance of the OTAs in the offseason since it helps old players get acquainted with new additions, and new installations to the playbook usually begin to take place during the sessions as well.

Others say that OTAs are pointless and just go over the same material that is covered during training camp in August, but whether it is helpful or not, the Browns should be the exception due to the big roster turnover and installation of many subtle similarities of the West Coast offense.

These additions to the Browns' new "North Coast Offense" scheme are extremely important for players like Harrison and fellow backfield mate and unsigned RFA Vickers to learn quickly and understand the application into the 2009 offensive scheme.

Now that Harrison is on board, perhaps the other unsigned players will take the hint and join Harrison and their other teammates sooner than later.
