Alan Belcher: 'The Fans Want To See Me Fight Big Fights!'
Alan Belcher is coming off one of the biggest wins of his career over Patrick Cote at UFC 113. He is clearly staking his claim as one of the most entertaining fighters in the sport, and is now stacking up the victories to go along with it.
After his recent win, Alan told Joe Rogan that he wanted a shot at the middleweight champion Anderson Silva. How possible this request is is anyone's guess.
Recently in an interview on Sherdog Radio Network's Savage Dog Show, Belcher stated that UFC matchmaker Joe Silva might not be going out of his way to help Alan up the middleweight ladder.
“I don’t know what Joe Silva’s deal is. Through my career, I’ve pushed for certain fights, and I don’t know if it’s Joe’s personality or what, but I think he’s not an Alan Belcher fan.”
While many saw Belcher as a massive underdog against Dennis Kang in Kang's debut, Belcher did say, “They haven’t brought me in to lose any fights. They haven't tried to set me up or anything."
Belcher expressed he would be open to a bout with Vitor Belfort.
“I’d love that fight. Vitor Belfort’s a legend. I haven’t fought anyone with that kind of name yet. It’d be an awesome fight for me. It’d definitely tell us who the next No. 1 contender is.”
Belfort was supposed to fight Anderson Silva at UFC 112, but was forced to pull out with an injury.
Belcher went on to ponder the rankings in the UFC middleweight division, saying,
“All the best guys in our division have all been losing. It’s just weird. The ranking system in the middleweight division, it’s all jumbled up. You’ve got Belfort trying to get better. It just sucks, man."
"I just wish there was a little bit more of a clear path to know who I got to beat to get where I want to go. Even if I’ve got to fight two or three more fights, I wish there was just an easier way of ranking us and moving us along that way.”
Belcher is quickly building a fan-base and if he continues to win, the middleweight title will be waiting for him to take a shot at it.
