Manny Pacquiao Hospitalized in the Philippines

Tony BriscoeMay 24, 2010

Manny Pacquiao has been hospitalized for a mild stomach ulcer, according to published reports.

When the 31-year-old WBO welterweight champion went to a hospital in Manila on Sunday for a routine check-up and complained of abdominal pains, doctors discovered a minor tear in the lining of his stomach.

Ulcers can be caused by a variety of factors, usually too much acid in the stomach caused by an unhealthy diet or stress. In Pacquiao’s case, many believe that stress was the major contributor.

Pacquiao has been involved in heated negotiations with Floyd Mayweather in regards to the potential super-fight as well as the demanding political campaigning for a congressional seat in his homeland of the Philippines.

The Mayweather-Pacquiao bout has been planned to take place on Nov. 13 at either the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas or the new Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

The only major setback in the discussions between the fighters has been concerning drug testing. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum said if the two sides can’t reach an agreement, he would like to see Pacquiao fight Antonio Margarito.

Pacquiao is expected to be fine and will be released either at sometime today or tomorrow.
