Recap of OVW episode 562 on ovwrestling.com

The show starts with the announcers recapping last weeks show with Jamin Olivencia winning the TV Title and the girls picking their king candidates for the Queen of OVW competition.

Match 1:  OVW Television Title © Jamin Olivencia vs Jimbo Onoo w/ Joey Barone

Good back and forth match. Joey Barone gets run off by “the Future” just after the beginning of the match leaving it one on one.  The announce team, specifically Tyler Houston lost tons of credibility by claiming to have been an MMA commentator but not knowing and claiming to have never seen a guillotine choke before when Jamine did one mid match.  Jamine gets the win with his spike double arm DDT finisher.

Winner and still OVW Television Champion Jamin Olivencia.

Backstage in the Diva’s locker room, Paredyce (basically a cross between Rico in the WWE and Chris Jericho in WCW) is crying over loosing his Television Title and saying that he’s worthless and ugly.  Taryn Shay (OVW’s version of Dawn Marie or Maria aka the company airhead) says he’s not any of those things which prompts the greatest rebuttal ever by Paradyce  “How would you know because you’re ugly too”.  Anyway, Taryn eventually talks him into going out.  (Personal opinion: Paredyce segments never disappoint. TNA or WWE need to call this guy up.)

A commercial for something called “OVW Breakout” airs.  Looks like OVW is doing their own version of Tough Enough with old school wrestler Rip Rogers training.  Now THAT could be interesting!

Ali is then shown talking about facing Mike Mondo in the main event to become #1 contender for the OVW Title.   He’s a decent enough wrestler but listening to him talk is painful at times at how dull his personality is.

Now the contestants for OVW King and Queen come out for the 1st round event which is a Quiz related to OVW history but the whole thing is you only have 5 seconds to answer your question.  We notice CJ Lane has been dressing Mitch Johnson like Elvis Pridemore. Paredyce and Taryn Shay make a grand entrance and apologize for their lateness.

Question 1:  Who was the 1st OVW Womens champion

Josie goes to answer but gets distracted by her guy Nolan taking his shirt off and the time expires.  CJ Lane then answers in that high piercing voice that would back down Vickie Guerrero with ODB which was correct. 1 point for CJ and Mitch.

Question 2:  Who was the 3rd OVW Heavyweight Champion

Paredyce goes into how that’s about perspective and his time expires.  Epiphany then answers Rip Rogers (get it, tie in to OVW Breakout….they’re so clever)

Times up and it ends 1-1 between CJ Lane and Epiphany so it’s decided the tie Breaker will be at OVW All or Nothing with CJ Lane and Mitch Johnson vs Epiphany and Elvis Pridemore.   (personal note:  basically these horrible segments are OVW repeating itself with the Miss OVW contest they did back when they were with WWE.  In other words it’ll probably end with Epiphany winning and becoming the awkward face like ODB did which isn’t necessarily a bad thing as she is probably the best all around female talent they have and most likely to follow in ODB’s footsteps to one of the big 2).

Head of OVW Security Mr. B then talks about how he’s going to beat Richard Cranium and arrest him at All or Nothing.  (personal note: Basically these two are the While E Coyote and Road Runner of professional wrestling with some pretty funny segments.  I’ll be slightly sad to see it end if it does.  The Coyote never catches the road runner.)

Next we go to ring announcer Brittany interviewing the Lowrider as they announce that he and his former tag partner/cousin Raul will face at All or Nothing in a Mexican Dog Collar match.   Rookie Nick Nelson comes in (we know because he has a shirt that says “rookie” on it).   Lowrider gets mad at the kid interrupting his interview, tells him he looks like his cousin Raul and proceeds to beat him down from backstage to the ring.   In the midst of the beat down Lowrider looks for his chain and can’t find it.   Raul comes out with the chain and breaks up the fight.

In yet another interview segment Mike Mondo looks like he’s at a gym or something looking very jacked.  He talks about Ali and how Beef needs to bring his “A” game when they face.   (For those who don’t know Mike is former Spirit Squad member Mikey.  Ever since coming back to OVW his character has been a serious face.  It doesn’t suit him well because I’m just used to the goofy heel character.  OVW has too many “serious face” wrestlers to the point that the heels are the only ones with real personality (ala Paredyce and Lowrider)).

Match 2:  Sucio and Fang vs Scott Simms and Sergio

A half hour in and we finally get another match.  Basically the commentators put over that they don’t know who Scott Simms is other than he’s from Seattle and his first OVW match was last week (that’s always a good thing right? WWE announcers just ignore the guys they don’t know.)  Sergio is one half of the tag team “Off Da Hook” and Simms is a muscular looking amateur wrestler and both are much larger than their cruiserweight opponents.  Sucio and Fang are the #1 contenders for the OVW Southern Tag Titles even though they spent most of the winter feuding with each other which the announcers bring up a lot.  Fang and Sucio win with a double team tilt –a-whirl slam on Simms.  The Elite try to attack Fang and Sucio after the match but it doesn’t work.

Winners: Sucio & Fang

Beef Wellington is backstage and talks about the two guys gunning for a title shot tonight (see my comments regarding Mondo, same goes for Wellington)

Match 3:  For the #1 contendership of the OVW Heavyweight Title Ali vs Mike Mondo

This was your average OVW main event which is above average wrestling for anywhere else.  Mondo’s wrestling style is very similar to Dean Malenko and was very underutilized in the WWE (but way more entertaining personality wise).  Jamin Olivencia comes out midway through the match to distract Ali as Ali attempts to use brass knuckles behind the refs back.  Mondo gets the win with the Texas Cloverleaf (another move the OVW announce team seems to not have ever seen before) and the show ends with Mondo celebrating.

Winner and #1 contender for the OVW Title: Mike Mondo
