Why the Straight Edge Society Could Be the WWE's Next Big Thing
(Right hand raised) "I pledge allegiance to the Straight Edge Society, one nation under Punk, indivisible, with integrity, and sobriety for all!" The Straight Edge Society, possibly the greatest all-heel stable since Evolution. Ever since Brock Lesnar left the WWE to try for greener pastures, people have been talking about who or what is going to be the "Next Big Thing". Something that is going to intrigue the fans, keep them on the edge of their seats, something that they just can't get enough of and pay money to see, and at the same time boosting ratings. In my opinion the Straight Edge Society can be just that! With CM Punk as the leader/savior of the group, they seem to be growing in numbers to possibly become a super stable and also become the strongest force in the WWE. Since coming to the WWE, CM Punk has always had the "straight edge" gimmick. But it wasn't until after he cashed in his MITB briefcase on Jeff Hardy at Extreme Rules 2009, that we really started to see him use it more openly with that "I'm better than you" feel to it, to start slowly gaining heat for his eventual heel turn. Then on November 27th, we saw what was the beginning of the Straight Edge Society. Punk came out with Festus, now known as Luke Gallows, saying that he had saved Gallows from himself. Saying that the reason "Festus" walked around with the domineer he did was because he was drugged up on pills all the time, until C.M. Punk came and "saved" him. From then on each week on Smackdown Punk would call out plants in the audience having them pledge straight edge and then proceed to shave them bald as a sign of renewal and devotion. The third convert, Serena, best known for her time in OVW and ROH would then begin to accompany Punk along with Gallows to the ring and interfere in Punks matches in order for him to gain advantage. And thus the Straight Edge Society was born. Since then the SES has seemed to just grow in power, with Punk on the mic he seems to always have a reason each week on why he is better than you. Now with Joey Mercury joining the group, (he is the masked man interfering in case you didn't know) and from what other people are saying Kaval/Low-Ki also. Also tonight its more than likely that Rey Mysterio will be forced to pledge straight edge, because I do not see Punk losing his hair it just wouldn't make sense. Your trying to build up the SES as a supreme heel stable, and you have the leader who was pure from the beginning which allows him to keep his hair, setting him apart from his followers, lose it? That would be a bad move if you ask me. What would make it even better is if Mysterio loses, pledges straight edge, and actually starts to follow Punk for real thus becoming heel with the rest of the group. Either way I’m sure that won't be the last of followers added to the group, and if things keep going the way they are for the SES, they definitely could be the next big thing of the WWE. What’s your thoughts? Do you think the SES has a chance of becoming the next big thing? Or are they just a mediocre group who will have limited success?
