Behind me is the par-3 17th hole on the TPC Four Seasons Resort golf course.

Come Sunday afternoon this 198-yard hole with water short right and a large undulating green will likely determine which golfer walks up the 18th fairway to victory.

The Honda Classic advertises itself as "18 holes of refined sport and raucous celebration."

The HP Byron Nelson may well be in contention for that title on the PGA TOUR.

On the raucous side, Colt Knost, the 2007 U.S. Amateur Champion joined Pat Green on stage last night after missing the cut by two strokes.

On the refined sport of golf side, a 16-year old amateur by the name of Jason Spieth made the cut with three strokes to spare.

The first round leaders are Cameron Beckman and Blake Adams.

Beckman, age 40 is a three time winner on the PGA TOUR.

He won the opposite field event Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun earlier this year while Ian Poulter won the WGC Accenture Match Play event.

Last year he won the Fall Series Frys.com Open so a win at the prestigious HP Byron Nelson Championship would be sort of a validation for him though none is needed.

As analyst John Maginnes says "all you can do is beat the guys in the field."

Blake Adams, age 34, is our consummate professional golfing hero.

After working his way up through and winning on the Hooters and Gateway mini-tours he finished third on the Nationwide Tour last year to earn his card for 2010.

A true rookie on tour, Adams played in his very first PGA TOUR event in Hawaii at the SONY Open where he finished T25.

Other contenders on Moving Day include two old timers- Smooth swinging Steve Elkington and the pride of Bellerive Jay Williamson.

The big story of the week is the high school junior Spieth playing in his first PGA TOUR event and making the cut.

The 2009 U.S. Junior Amateur champion played in front of a large gallery in the same group as Cameron Beckman.

All his classmates were given the day off from school at the nearby Jesuit College Preparatory School and came out to cheer him on.

Talk about a legitimate " Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

The cut came at even par 140 with 71 players advancing to the weekend.

Eighty-five (85) players went home with expenses but no pay this week including Michael Letzig who went to Dairy Queen (DQ'd) after signing an incorrect scorecard.

Notables to miss the cut include the Puma Tiger Rickie Fowler, Billy Mayfair and Vijay Singh.

After winning the first two playoff events late in the 2008 season Singh is now ranked No. 51 in the world and forced to qualify for the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.

That my friends is the topsy-turvy world of professional golf on the world's biggest stage the PGA TOUR.

Even though Singh has had four Top 10s since those last two victories he has been displaced in the world's Top 50 by the likes of Rory McIlroy and Ryo Ishikawa.

By the way, the last amateur to make the cut here at the HP Byron Nelson?

Colt Knost.

Wave-on-wave…

The weather for the weekend here will be difficult with temperatures in the 90s and high winds.

Look for some waves in the lake right here and an exciting finish to the HP Byron Nelson.

Until next time- good golf and good living my friends!
