Randy Orton Losing To Edge At Over The Limit- Will It Hurt Him?

Randy RileyMay 22, 2010

A previous article written on here asked if Randy Orton would lose his momentum if he were defeated by Jack Swagger last month at Extreme Rules. This was before the draft took place and many members of the Bleacher Report felt as though Randy could lose the match and remain just as popular with just as much momentum going forward. Of course, many also thought he would be drafted to Smackdown following the PPV.

When all was said and done, Orton did lose to Swagger, remained on RAW and was not drafted, and continued to gain popularity as one of, if not RAW's biggest "faces". A new feud was started between Orton and Edge (who was drafted to RAW and turned back to a heel once again). The feud has been, in the opinion of many, the best feud WWE has turned out in quite some time. The two have been going back and forth ever since the draft episode of RAW, each getting the upper hand on their opponent with their respective signature moves, the spear and RKO.

Some feel as though the upcoming match at Over The Limit is just the start of the feud and the two will continue throughout the summer. Others feel as though things might get a bit dicey because WWE has two theme PPV's coming up in Fatal Four Way and Money In The Bank. In both of those cases, it is hard to imagine these two will be involved in one-on-one matches when they might be needed in the main event as title contenders considering the theme of each PPV.

So, whether or not this is the first of many or the first and last meeting between these two, the question remains of how much momentum and popularity Orton can sustain if he were to lose at yet another PPV.

I ask the members of the Bleacher Report, keeping everything in mind that we have seen on RAW the last few weeks and knowing how the audience reacts to wins and losses, especially to people who are just starting out on a new path, what does a loss for Orton mean? Will he recover and still be on top of the RAW mountain or will a loss here hurt his character and momentum?

My actual prediction for the match is that Edge wins via a bit of cheating but this is not so much a prediction article as more of an opinion that I ask of all of you. Where do you stand?
