Bret Hart Winning WWE US Title Brings Back Memories

Monday night on WWE Raw fans saw something that we thought we would never see again after 2002, Bret Hart as a champion.

The Miz faced off against his recent rival Bret The Hitman Hart in a match that was made after Tyson Kidd beat Miz, thus earning a member of the Hart family a shot at his US Title.

The Miz threw a curve ball to everyone when he named his challenger as the Hitman.  Bret came out on Monday and said despite his urge to beat the hell out of the Miz, he would decline the shot.

Chris Jericho came out to confront the Hitman.  Jericho having been a rookie trained in Stu Hart's dungeon, so he and Hitman had quite a bit of history.  Hitman said he remembered Jericho needing hours of work to apply a headlock.

Enraged, Jericho berated the Hitman until Bret accepted Miz's challenge.

Hart came out to a huge pop later in the night, and Miz was waiting with a plan.  He had hired Kozlov and Regal to back him up in case Bret's family tried to interfere.

The Hart Dynasty jumped from the crowd and pounced on Kozlov and Regal, leaving Miz and Hart alone in the ring, that is until Jericho showed up.  Bret's niece Natalya stepped in to back up her uncle, and even teed off on Jericho with a huge slap.

After disposing of Regal and Kozlov The Hart Dynasty came back to assist Bret, they took out Jericho and gave Miz a Hart attack finisher, setting up a moment I thought I would never see again.

Bret picked up the Miz's legs, stepped through, crossed the legs and rolled Miz over for into one of the greatest finishers in wrestling history, the sharpshooter.

Miz tapped, the bell rang and Bret's hand was raised.  The impossible had happened, Bret Hart was US champion for a fifth time.

Fans in the arena went nuts as Bret celebrated with his family in the ring.

I for one was not sure how to act.  I was both in shock, and I was overwhelmingly happy.  Seeing a Bret Hart title win brought back so many memories of the days of wrestling from my youth.

I was a huge Hitman Mark and I still am.  I had the Shades, the leather jacket and I was at every WWE show I could get to in Chicago cheering for Bret to lock in that oh so famous submission.

Will this be a long title reign? No.  Bret will most likely hand the title over to be won in some kind of tournament, or the next Raw GM will strip him of the title because he is not on the WWE roster and award it back to Miz.

No matter what happens though, we got to see a Bret Hart title victory in 2010 and for me that makes it a great year.
