Arsenal Can Still Be Fab
Arsenal fans are bracing themselves with the sale of their most important asset- Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard has made it clear that he wants out this summer according to worldwide reports, and Arsene Wenger should let him go now or pay the price.
An unhappy player at a football club is never good for the dressing room, especially when it’s your captain. But Arsenal can cash in on Fabregas now rather than lose him for less a year later—a mistake the club made with Thierry Henry.
“It was never a question of If Fabregas would leave; but when would he leave?”
Arsene Wenger may be having nightmares about this situation but the inevitable has come. Fans shouldn’t be abusing Fabregas—we all knew this was going to happen. It was never a question of If Fabregas would leave; but when would he leave? Well it seems it is going to be before the World Cup starts.
Several reports suggest Arsenal could cash in up to £50 million for Fabregas or a deal involving Yaya Toure going in the opposite direction. If Arsenal sold their captain now, Wenger could go out and buy an instant replacement. Rafael Van der Vaart could be available and he would be ideal as he brings experience. He has great vision and can score goals. Arsenal already have a number of players such as Rosicky, Nasri, and Ramsey who can take up the midfield role employed by Cesc.
Fran Merida could also have a change of heart and stay if Fabregas leaves. With so many players able to play in a central role, Arsenal could bolster his frail defense and recruit a solid, consistent goalkeeper. If Arsene Wenger wants a young midfield maestro, Marek Hamsik fits the bill. The Slovakian is tipped as becoming the next Pavel Nedved and he could bargain before the World Cup.
It is not all doom and gloom at Arsenal, as long as investments are made to improve the squad, but this does not mean the youth system policy has not worked. In fact it is because of Arsene Wenger’s policy that Arsenal keep losing all their top players.
Hleb, Flamini and Adebayor all made their names at Arsenal before themselves seeking a move away from the club. Other players who decided to leave were Lassana Diarra and now it seems Cesc is joining the list. The youth policy has not failed but individuals seeking a move away from the club have been halting the Gunners progress.
All these players made their names at Arsenal, with the exception of Lassana Diarra who played for Chelsea. Arsenal turned them into the world class talent they are today but the club are just unable to hold on as the big guns from Europe come calling for them. Nobody can build a team together if their players keep leaving whenever they want!
After another trophy-less season, Arsene Wenger has decided to spend and has identified his team’s weaknesses. But now another bombshell has dropped with Fabregas seeking a move back to his childhood club; Barcelona.
Now is the time for Arsenal fans to stick together and support the gaffer more than any other time. Wenger’s youth policy means he has money to spend unlike Manchester United, whose debts are spiralling out of control. Arsenal have done well financially and have always been able to compete in the top four, despite not having ridiculous millions to spend on players. Young players at Arsenal have become world class football players.
The remaining players at Arsenal need to show unity, a winning mentality and loyalty to the fans and the club that made their names. The Gunners will still be sailing, even if their captain abandons the ship.
