News:
- Ticket sales from the Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley mega-fight have been counted and final numbers are in. The official number for paid seating was 14,028, generating a total of $11,032,100 in revenue, which is now the 10th largest gate in Nevada history.
- Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has stated that he wants to sit down with Joe Calzaghe in his upcoming trip to Europe and discuss a potential rematch with Bernard Hopkins .
- Wladimir Klitschko and David Haye are reportedly still trying to negotiate a fight, even though the IBF has stated that if a deal was not reached by May 17, that Klitschko would have to enter into negotiations with mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin . Haye also recently stated he would rather fight the elder, Vitali Klitschko , in an effort to further unify the titles with the winner of a potential Wladimir–Povetkin matchup.
- Promoter Don King paid $1 million in order to prevent former world champion Ricardo Mayorga from competing against Din Thomas in a Shine Fights MMA pay-per-view card.
- Sergio Martinez has stated that he would like to have Floyd Mayweather Jr. as his next opponent, prematurely agreeing to any tests that may be requested, saying, "...I don't mind doing any tests that he demands and I will do them with pleasure. Up until the day of the fight."
- Edwin Valero ’s body has been exhumed for investigation at request of his family. They believe he may not have committed suicide, but rather that Valero may have been strangled to death by police officers.
- The WBO has stated that whoever wins the rematch between Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz must face interim WBO champion Michael Katsidis, or they will be stripped of the title.
- Amir Khan has stated that he would fight Marcos Maidana in his next fight, saying he would also want Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander to fight each other, and the winners of the bouts square off in a match to unify the Light Welterweight division.
Results:
- Julio Diaz (37-6) got his name back in the rankings in the Light Welterweight division with a unanimous decision victory over Herman Ngoudjo (18-4).
- Undefeated WBO Light Middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-0) successfully defended his title, outboxing Daniel Dawson (34-1) into a 10-round stoppage.
- Victor Ortiz (27-2) easily outpointed veteran Nate Campbell (33-6-1) in a 10-round decision, winning every round. This was Ortiz’s third straight win since suffering a devastating loss to Marcos Maidana .
- Amir Khan (23-1) successfully defended his WBA Light Welterweight title for a second time against Paulie Malignaggi (27-4). Khan easily outboxed Malignaggi to an 11th-round stoppage, making a successful debut in the U.S. while putting the rest of the Light Welterweight division on notice.
- 2009 ESPN prospect of the year Daniel Jacobs (20-0) looked impressive in a second-round TKO over Juan Astorga (14-5-1).
- Cristobal Cruz (39-12-2) lost his IBF Featherweight championship via split decision in a rematch against Orlando Salido (34-10-2).
- Humberto Soto (52-7-2) retained his WBC Lightweight title against Ricardo Dominguez (31-6-2). Soto won via unanimous decision.
- Michael Katsidis (27-2) retained his interim WBO Lightweight title with a dominant third-round TKO against Kevin Mitchell (31-1).
This Week:
Thursday 5/20
- WBA/WBC Super Flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (34-2-1) will meet Eric Barcelona (51-17-4) for the vacant IBO Bantamweight title.
Friday 5/21
- Ji Hoon Kim (20-5) squares off against Ameth Diaz (27-9), headlining this week’s edition of ESPN Friday Night Fights in an IBF Lightweight title eliminator.
Saturday 5/22
- Showtime Championship Boxing will be showcasing the fourth meeting between Rafael Marquez (38-5) and Israel Vasquez (44-4). Marquez won the first fight, while Vasquez went on to win the last two meetings. This fight will be held at the Featherweight limit.
- Also on Showtime, Yhonny Perez (20-0) will be defending his IBF Bantamweight title against Abner Mares (20-0).
- Untelevised will be Ruslan Chagaev (25-1-1) meeting Kali Meehan (35-2) in a WBA Heavyweight title eliminator.
- Also untelevised will be Middleweight contender Peter Manfredo Jr. (34-6) against Angel Hernandez (30-7).
