Tim Cahill Having a Great Start to His Summer: Extends Everton Contract

Ron FurlongMay 18, 2010

Tim Cahill is having a nice time of late.

First, an impressive finish to the season for Everton, as Cahill helped the Blues climb the table in the second half of the year, and finish a strong eighth.

Second, a little matter he took care of with his childhood sweetheart in Las Vegas, as they exchanged wedding vows. Cahill married Rebekah Greenhill, the mother of his three children, in the states last week.

Third, he just signed a new four-year deal that will keep him at Goodison through 2014.

And fourth, he has now rejoined the Australian men’s national team as they prepare for next month’s little tournament known as the World Cup.

Not a bad start to his summer.

The 30-year-old Cahill did have two more years on his contract with the Blues, but the Everton board wanted to sign him to a longer deal, and he has; effectively keeping him in Everton Blue the remainder of his career.

Cahill is back in Sydney now. Australia plays a friendly against neighbor New Zealand next week, and then they fly a little early to South Africa in the beginning of June, to play a final tune-up friendly against the United States, before the World Cup begins.

Earlier this month Cahill was quoted in the Liverpool Echo as saying, “I will sign here for life.”

It appears as if he has done that exact thing.

What a start to Cahill’s summer. What’s next?

Australia winning the cup?
