Why Jack Swagger Should Not Be World Heavyweight Champion

Louie LongoriaMay 17, 2010

The All-American American. That is the nickname of the current World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger. While I believe Swagger is being developed nicely into a bonafide champion, in order for him to have been taken seriously right away, he should not have won the World Heavyweight Championship.

Instead of thrusting Swagger into the world title picture immediately after winning Money In The Bank at Wrestlemania 26, WWE should have had him hold a different title.

The All-American American should have captured the United States Championship.

Not only would this get him exposure as a major champion and a potential threat to the WWE Championship, especially holding the United States Championship and Money in the Bank simultaneously, but it would develop him into one of the major heels in the entire WWE.

Not since Kurt Angle, has the WWE seen a more arrogant but intense character that people love to hate, and I believe if WWE is patient with Swagger, he could fit that mold perfectly. Angle would boast every week that he was the only Olympic gold medalist ever in the WWE but he had the intelligence and intensity to back up his statements week after week. Swagger would have the perfect opportunity to duplicate this feat.

Swagger could win the United States Championship and immediately rename it the All-American American Championship.

He could proclaim his greatness every week, stating that he is the only All-American American Champion in WWE history and only superstar to hold a major title and Money in the Bank at the same time. Swagger would back up his words in the ring, week in and week out, albeit, at times, through underhanded tactics. Fans would get fed up with his antics and would boo him mercilessly, which would only make him gloat and brag more.

After being the “All-American American Champion” for about 4 to 6 months, this would establish him as a dominant champion. He could finally be tested by a star on the cusp of main event status, such as John Morrison or Christian.

He could feud with this superstar for a month or two, culminating in a specialty match for the title. This would not only establish a solid feud with a story behind it, but also develop two stars ready for the main event championship picture.
