Jerry Rice, Stop the Hacking...Stop It Now!
Jerry Rice, please, please, no more.
No Mas, por favor!
Last time we saw Jerry on a golf course, he was struggling mightily.
Thursday in South Carolina at the marvelous Cliffs development, he was again playing as a professional in the BMW Charity Classic.
Playing? Well, that's generous.
Jerry was flat-out hacking, hacking viciously.
How about a 92? Hide the women and children.
And in truly ironic fashion, the former 49er great, a football Hall of Famer, shot himself a "49" on the front nine in the first round. Alas he was better on the back with 43.
All told, adds up to a nifty 20-over, and the single day high score record for a professional in this Nationwide Tour event.
Lowlight was a 10 at the par-four second hole, three balls in the water, thank you.
Good news is he did have a birdie. Shutout avoided.
So the professional golf struggles of Rice continue.
Jerry, accordingly, was in a bad mood afterward. "I don't want to talk about golf now," he said, declining any details of a round which he probably wanted to erase from his memory banks as quickly as possible.
Where's Michael Jordan when you need him?
Author's note: Jerry brought it back nicely on Friday with nines of 42-40 for 82 and only ONE double bogey. Alas Jerry missed the cut at 30-over for 36 holes.
