Welcome To Cleveland...The Snakebitten City

Kevin AndresMay 13, 2010

The picture says it all, I bet thats why Art Modell moved the original Cleveland Browns to a title town, renamed the team, and won the Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer as their quarterback. Jesse " the Body " Ventura always had jokes about Cleveland when he did commentary on the yester-years of the WWE. Cleveland use to be a title town, what happened? The Indians won the World Series sometime in the 1900's. The Cleveland Browns won NFL Championships before the NFL-AFL merger. Now all Cleveland sports franchises are famous for is failures. Failures with titles attached. "The Shot", Micheal Jordan shoots over Craig Ehlo at the buzzer, Cavs fail to reach NBA Finals. " The Drive", John Elway drives the Denver Broncos 98 yards for the game winning touch down, Browns fail to reach the Super Bowl. "The Fumble", Ernest Byner fumbles the ball at the Denver goal line, fail to get go ahead touchdown, Browns fail to reach the Super Bowl again. "The Hit", The Florida Marlins get the go ahead run in game 7 of the World Series, dashing the Indians season of bringing the World Series title back to Cleveland.

Now I don't have anything against the City of Cleveland, Ohio...but somebody get a witch doctor and lift the curse, cast the hex out...DO SOMETHING CLEVELAND! Somehow good graces were on Cleveland's side, when the Cleveland Indians assembled a team good enough to get to the World Series, but the snakebite, curse, hex  made them fail to capture the World Series title. If you look at it, the Cleveland Cavaliers were not a bad team in the 80's and early 90's. They had Mark Price, one of the leagues best point guards next to Magic Johnson and John Stockton. The Cleveland Browns in the 80's were NOT anything like the NEW Cleveland Browns. They had the one of the best, scariest, hard hitting defensive backfield tandems in the NFL. Eric Metcalf was a terror on offense and special teams. Bernie Kosar was holding his own as one of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL. Of course you should have seen this coming, what is the common trait or pattern? Somehow in the end, some curse, some hex, some sort of bad luck hits them at the moment of truth. Either to fail to get over the hump or fail to win it all.

Let's face it, Lebron's time in Cleveland is GONE, OVER, AU REVOIR, DONE. The Cavs management failed to get a supporting cast that Lebron needed. Shaq is too old, too fat, too stupid to be any help to anybody. Lebron's current supporting cast isn't even up to any team's challenge...I mean for god's sakes, Rajon Rondo practically took over this Semifinals matchup by himself. The Cavs were worried about every one else but forgot about Rondo. Honestly, were did Lebron's supporting cast come from? They threw the BIG dollars at Lebron and Shaq, but saw their budget was getting low, so they shopped at the outlet stores or bargain shops or swap meets to fill in the holes. 60 plus wins a season don't mean a thing without the ring. If Cleveland didn't know better ask the Dallas Mavericks, they should know.

There are snakebitten sports franchises out there, but if the city has more than one sports franchises and are winners for example, Dallas Mavs can't get past the first round of the NBA playoffs when ranked number 1, but thats ok the Dallas Cowboys have 5 Super Bowl titles. Some say Philadelphia would be snakebitten but the Phillies won the World Series a few seasons ago. But Cleveland, the City of Cleveland, Ohio and their three sports franchises in the NFL, NBA, and MLB are SNAKEBITTEN, CURSED, HEXED, BAD LUCK.

If Lebron James really wants to hoist the NBA Finals trophy, to wear an NBA Final ring, it will cost him. Whatever ties, loyalties he got going in the state of Ohio, cut them. King James already has money, it should be all about solidifying your legacy to game. Please don't go down as one of those players that get labeled "Greatest Players of the NBA to never win a Championship." Kobe Bryant doesn't deserve a championship but he got it anyway. I know Lebron wants to be the nice guy, but this is a business. Kobe used cutthroat tactics to get his rings. Lebron, you know what to do if you want your ring....GET THE HELL OUTTA CLEVELAND! DO IT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!
