Fantasy Baseball Free Agent Pool: 2010 Strikeout Kings, Vol. 2

Some reasonably available players to assist you in the strikeouts category. Realize that some of these will come with high ERAs & WHIPs because if a pitcher has low numbers in those categories and a good K total, they’re already spoken for.

 

Felipe Paulino, Houston Astros (pictured)
The Astros have been dreadful, and Paulino is winless, but he’s been getting it done over the past 15 days. He has 23 Ks in 18 innings (11.5 K/9 ratio) with a 3.50 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. On the year he’s 0-5 with 34 Ks (8.8 K/9), a 4.67 ERA, and a 1.44 WHIP. Paulino is owned in 0.2 percent of ESPN and 5 percent of CBS leagues.

 

John Maine, New York Mets
Maine has struggled most of the year (1-2, 5.45 ERA, 1.70 WHIP, 34 Ks (8.8 K/9), but has improved of late. In the last 15 days he’s 1-1 with 20 Ks (10 K/9), a 2.50 ERA, and a 1.33 WHIP. Maine is owned in 6.4 percent of ESPN and 46 percent of CBS leagues.

 

Ervin Santana, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Despite not picking up a win, Santana has 20 Ks (8.9 K/9), a 3.98 ERA, and a 1.48 ERA in the last 15 days. On the year he’s 1-3 with 40 Ks (7.7 K/9), a 4.40 ERA, and a 1.32 WHIP. Santana is owned in 25.5 percent of ESPN leagues.

 

Tom Gorzelanny, Chicago Cubs
Gorzelanny is 1-1 with 19 Ks (13.2 K/9), a 3.46 ERA, and 1.46 WHIP in the last 15 days. On the year he’s 1-4 with 36 Ks (9.3 K/9), a 2.83 ERA, and 1.20 WHIP. Tom is owned in 8.5 percent of ESPN and 41 percent of CBS leagues.
