Tennessee Titans Draft Pick Breakdown: Marc Mariani

Blaize PenningtonMay 12, 2010

The Titans have had some pretty good draft since Mike Reinfeldt. This year could be his best yet. Some really big names were taken along with some potential risks. For this series, I'm going to break down each pick individually and let you know how successful I think they will become.

When the seventh round came around and Marc Mariani was selected out of Montana, many people assumed the pick was made because Mariani played with Jeff Fisher's son, Brandon.

This also led many people to believe that the Titans reached for this pick, instead of going with the guy who they felt was best. I am personally not positive on how I feel about this selection yet, however, I do like what I see from the guy's highlights.

Mariani doesn't seem to be the biggest or the fastest wide receiver out there, but there is one thing he has that sticks out. If he is open, he will catch anything. Time and time again, as you watch the highlights, you will see Mariani making circus catches. His most famous catch even made it as the number four on ESPN's top 10. (video )

With the current depth at wide receiver, I see Mariani as a practice squad guy next year, but it would be nice if he could teach Nate Washington to catch the ball. Washington infuriated some Titans' fans when he dropped several wide open passes in that 0-6 run they started out with. A guy like Mariani could potentially be a dark horse for one of the most stout wide receiver groups the Titans have had since they moved to Tennessee.
