Tampa Bay Buccaneers Show Doug Williams the Door

Tom EdringtonMay 12, 2010

It was the greatest injustice in the history of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a long time ago, a very long time ago, when Doug Williams, a franchise quarterback if there ever was one for the Buccaneers, was let go.

Doug was quietly and unceremoniously let go again by the Buccaneers on Tuesday. He's not part of "the plan" whatever "the plan" is.

Perhaps he was considered too old for the front office, just as anyone over 30 is considered too old for the playing roster, save Raheem Morris' soulmate, Ronde Barber.

Williams, the director of pro personnel, is gone and the organization spun it as a "mutual" decision.

Don't kid yourself. Anyone with a decent job these days DOES NOT leave that job unless it is to go directly to a new one.

Thus Williams has entered the uncertain world of football limbo, perhaps not unlike the current state of the "baby" Buccaneers.

You knew for a long time that Doug saw the writing on the wall. With the youth movement at One Buc Place, you could make that the "crayon" writing on the wall.

With the Buccaneers out of the free agent market for all intents and purposes, why would they even want to scout existing NFL players at all?

No need. They're building through the draft.

Williams interviewed for two college jobs, Southern and USF, while he was there, so perhaps that is what is truly in his heart.

Whatever Doug chooses to do, wherever he might next land, like it was back then and it still is today, this is a lesser organization without him.

But that wouldn't bother this organization, would it?
