Haters Make the World Go Round

I try not to let things get under my skin, but the recent swarm of negativity towards Floyd Mayweather  has just become too much.

The fact of the matter is this whether you like him or not he is the welterweight king for the time being and let me take a moment to point out why.

Mayweather began his career by dominating a great fighter named Genaro Hernandez.  Mayweather not only beat him for the second time, in Hernandez’s career, but he stopped Hernandez, becoming only the second person to do so, and the first man you may know him as the golden boy or Oscar De La Hoya .

Mayweather would then take his first title defense against a very marketable opponent Angel Manfredy .   Manfredy would start out his career with two losses but move up the rankings beating Arturo Gatti and winning 23 fights in-a-row, only to lose badly to Mayweather in a second round tko .

The next big challenge for Mayweather a fight of the unbeaten junior lightweights, Mayweather would face his hardest opponent yet Diego ''Chico'' Corrales

Corrales would come into the fight with an impressive 33-0 record with a massive height and reach advantage; however those attributes were not the things Mayweather was supposed to be intimidated by.

The big thing was supposed to be Corrales power but as the fight went on Corrales was not able to show his power due to Mayweathers quickness. However, it was Mayweather who was able to show his quickness all night with hard left hooks, he dropped Corrales five times before the fight was stopped in the 10th round.

Mayweather  would then try his luck in the lightweight division against a great Mexican warrior, Jose Luis Castillo. Mayweather would win the first fight by a controversial unanimous decision even though every time I've seen the fight I think Mayweather wins clearly. The second fight another dominating victory for Mayweather .

The next big victory for Mayweather would come against a rugged battle tested opponent Arturo Gatti .   Gatti would express his hate for Mayweather in the television show countdown to Mayweather Gatti on HBO.   Gatti would make comments like “He's a little boy he needs a spanking,” or “I'm gonna take him somewhere he's never been,” as the fight began you will hear Jim Lamply say “The speed is the difference,” and as the fight went on Mayweather would begin to punish Gatti with hard combinations.   Gatti would lose the fight in the sixth round with both eyes closed and clearly in pain.

The biggest fight in years would be when Mayweather faced golden boy Oscar De La Hoya in the junior middleweight division. This fight would be Mayweather 's first and only split decision victory. De La Hoya would bring the fight to Mayweather and to the fans and judges it looked like De La Hoya was landing.

However, Mayweather blocked many of the punches that counted against him. Then when the final punch stats were shown it showed Oscar threw 587 punches and landed 122, Mayweather threw 481 and landed 207 punches; Mayweather clearly dominated De La Hoya .

Next up to the plate another undefeated champion, Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton . Mayweather would start out the fight feeling out Hatton,  (remember Mayweather does not study tapes of his opponents like other fighters) not to mention Hatton was undefeated Mayweather had to show caution when dealing with this brawler. As the fight went on Mayweather began to land his straight right at will and hatton was easy pray after that.   As Mayweather was backing up he caught Hatton with a hard left hook and the fight was pretty much over after that.   Mayweather would go on to win by a 10th round knock out.

Forgive me for skipping the Juan Manuel Marquez fight Maywather dominated that fight as well regardless of the fact that Marquez was a lightweight or not.

The biggest challenge of Mayweather 's career to date would come when Mayweather would face Shane Mosley.   The fight would start in the second round when Mosley landed two huge right hands on Mayweather’s chin.   Mayweather would defy gravity on the second one and not go down after that the fight was Mayweather’s .   He would sail to a unanimous decision and silence the critics who said all these years he could not beat a true welterweight.

Well it would be deserving if they did give him his credit however they did no such thing. Mayweather beat a fighter in Shane Mosley that Manny Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach admitted was too big of a risk for Pacquiao .   Then when Mayweather destroyed Mosley everybody who said this was going to be a good fight, says oh we knew that would happen.

My point is this people “haters” like to say Mayweather doesn't fight anybody well he's won six world titles in five weight divisions, you don't get that from fighting nobodies, you get that from fighting champions Muhammad Ali was once the cockiest fighter ever and he was praised for it.

My thought is this Mayweather saw that and wanted to be considered the greatest however it backfired on him. Now whether you like him or not he is better than any fighter out there today. So you haters not to name names but Joe O’neill will have to just keep buying his fights and putting money in his pocket hoping you will see him knocked out.
