All-Star Break Too Long?
The All-Star Game has changed a lot since its creation. The Home Run Derby, and the "This Time it Counts" slogan have been added since the game started. Maybe there should be another change.
The All-Star break serves as a marker between the first and second halves of the season, but some think that a three day break is too much of a layoff for baseball fans.ย
The first day of the break consists of the Home Run Derby, featuring four of the games best sluggers from their respective leagues. (Pardon me AL i mean minus the best... A-Rod.) This years winner was Justin Morneau of the Twins.ย

The second day off is the Midsummer Classic itself, with the best players in the game competing to see which league gets home field advantage in the World Series.ย
But the third day of the break is used for, well... nothing in particular. It is the most boring day of the season for baseball fans, as nobody is playing at all.ย
The other side to the argument for the third day, that being that the players that did compete in the game need a day to fly wherever they're going to play the next day, and rest up after what was probably a fun-filled, but draining experience.ย
If it were up to many of the die hard fans of the MLB, I'm sure that they would vote to have a two day break instead of three, but for those who can live with waiting a day to watch their teams play.ย
Without a doubt, though, the All-Star Game was a tremendous and resounding success this year, a fifteen inning epic, which, again, was won by the American League.ย
Outfielder J.D. Drew took home some hardware,ย receiving his first All-Star Game MVP award. He hit a solo shot to tie the game in the seventh off of Reds pitcher Edison Volquez, who was part of the Josh Hamilton trade with the Rangers.ย
If next year's All-Star Game is as exciting as it was this year, we'll all be in for a real treat.ย
