Week Four: Recap
The Pirates start the week out on a poor note, losing to 9-3 to the Los Angles Dodgers. They turned things around mid-week, sweeping a three game series with the Chicago Cubs, and have split the first two games of the weekend series with the Cardinals finishing this weeks play at 4-2. The Pirates are currently tied for third in the NL Central at 14-16, 4.5 games behind the divisional leading Cardinals.
On Tuesday May 4 the Pirates called up Steve Peace. Peace has changed his approach at the plate and was hitting .347 with Triple-A Indianapolis. He will take Brendan Donnelly's spot on the 25 man roster.
On Wednesday May 5 Ross Ohlendorf threw four shutout innings for double-a Altoona. He threw 59 pitches allowing three hits, one walk and struck out six. George Von Benko, MLB.com, reported that Pirates GM Neal Huntington was pleased with Ohlendorf's outing. "I was very pleased. Ross threw three pitches for strikes and had velocity in the zone" Huntington said.
On Friday May 7 Pirates manager John Russell announced that Brian Burres will stay in the rotation for now. "He shut down two pretty good offensive clubs. In my opinion, I think he deserves an opportunity to continue to pitch. I'd like to see if we can keep this guy in the rotation" Russell commented about Burres.

Injuries
On Tuesday May 4 Andrew McCutchen was scratched from the lineup due to a tender right ankle. He suffered a mild sprain on Sunday against the Dodgers.
On Tuesday May 4 the Pirates placed Brendan Donnelly on the 15 day DL with a strained left oblique muscle. Donnelly strained the oblique on April 27 and has not pitched since. Therefore, the Pirates have made this move retroactive to April 28, allowing for his return May 13.
