Arsene Wenger Goes Missing Ahead Of Fulham Game.

Jamrock RoverMay 7, 2010

Ahead of Sunday's game, the manager should have had his press conference today but it has been cancelled as he can't speak due to a sore throat.

I can only hope that the sore throat came from shouting at the players as he tried to make it known to them exactly how much finishing above the Spuds means to us fans.

I won't engage in any conspiracy theories about shutting the press out and creating a siege mentality ahead of the match, but it wouldn't be a bad idea.

I'm sure he could do without questions from the press about the possibility of finishing in fourth behind the Spuds.

Also, I would like to know why the press conference was scheduled for a Thursday last week with the match on Monday, and a Friday this week with the match on Sunday. A little bit of consistency wouldn't go astray.

There will be no Premier league football at all this Saturday, as the final day's fixtures are all played simultaneously at 3pm on Sunday so that no team will have the advantage of knowing how their rivals have fared and what exactly is required of them.

With all eyes on the title race between Chelsea and "Manure", we will be a mere sideshow as we look to avoid defeat at home to Fulham in order to finish third and finally celebrate St. Totteringham's day.

Most astonishing is quite how this situation has developed, as only a few weeks ago we were challenging the top two and hoping that we could keep winning to put pressure on them and somehow deliver a very unlikely league title.

However, the league table doesn't lie and we currently stand as the third best team in the league with a slight possibility that we will slip back even further.

It's hard to argue with that league position as we were beaten at home and away by both Chelsea and "Manure" with the trip to Old Trafford being the only one of those fixtures where the result could and should have been different.

When the points are tallied at the end of the season, we will probably have a few more than last season but we will have done worse in the cup competitions and a case can be made that we have made no progress at all.

We have failed miserably in almost all of the real crunch matches that could have changed our season, but I think we have shown a resilience that was missing at times last season.

We recovered from setback after setback to keep in the title hunt until the injury situation got us to a stage where the players to drive us on to our ultimate goal were no longer available and their replacements just weren't up to the job.

The only positive team news we have for Sunday's game is that Arshavin is available from the start and Clichy might return if he is passed fit.  I think we need both of them in the team as they can only makes things better than they were last Monday against Blackburn.

Unfortunately Song, Rosicky and Bendtner are all still unavailable after picking up injuries before that Blackburn game and their season is now over as will be the season for the rest of the players on Sunday.

The players who are playing need to understand that the fans expect a big performance to sign off in front of them and to keep our bragging rights over the Spuds. It would also help if we didn't have to enter the Champions league in the qualifying rounds as it would mean our World Cup players would get a slightly longer break.

Finally for today, the ladies drew 1-1 at Blackburn last night and they play Everton at home on Sunday morning knowing that a draw will secure a seventh straight league title with two games to spare.

As it turned out they could have won the league with a victory last night as Everton only managed a draw in their game but I'm sure both teams were knackered after playing extra time in their FA Cup final on Monday.

Here's a little something from the man most likely to get us a win on Sunday.

See You Tomorrow.
